Replaces Techkon OEM part number 75119 504 521 for SpectroDens SpectroPlate and Spectrodens D-61 spectrophotometers.
4.8V 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry maintains the instrument's color measurement accuracy during clinical and laboratory measurement sessions.
Cylindrical cell slides into the rear battery compartment with two-pin connector; polarity marked on housing and pack terminals.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack against the OEM original; both showed stable voltage delivery under the sustained sensor load during spectral scanning without dropout.
Install the cell, then run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment — the Techkon platform maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step triggers premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Techkon SpectroDens / Spectrodens D-61 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (75119 504 521)

This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Techkon SpectroDens SpectroPlate and Spectrodens D-61 spectrophotometers. It matches OEM part number 75119 504 521 and fits directly into the instrument's battery compartment. The SpectroDens platform uses this cell pack for portable colour measurement in print quality control and dental applications.

  • SpectroDens and D-61 compatibility: Both models share the same 4.8V four-cell Ni-MH configuration and battery footprint. The connector pinout and physical dimensions — 51 × 29 × 29mm — are identical across the SpectroDens SpectroPlate and D-61 variants, so one SKU covers both instruments without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the SpectroDens charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cells without error flags. Current draw at sensor initialisation stayed within the pack's delivery threshold, and the instrument completed full measurement sequences without mid-session cutoff.
  • Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The SpectroDens maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings to appear during your first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS lockout after the SpectroDens sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge over time, and a pack left in storage for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold. When this happens, the instrument either refuses to power on or shows no charge response when placed on the dock. The fix is to apply a trickle charge externally using a compatible Ni-MH charger at 0.1C — for a 2000mAh pack, that means 200mA — until cell voltage climbs back above approximately 4.0V. Once the pack recovers to that level, the instrument's own charge circuit will take over normally.

SpectroDens shutting down mid-measurement during a logging session

This shutdown is not the same as a low-battery warning — it happens when voltage drops sharply under the sustained load of the sensor array during a continuous logging run. Aged or partially discharged Ni-MH cells show high internal resistance, and the resulting voltage sag crosses the instrument's undervoltage cutoff mid-sequence. A fresh pack at full charge resolves this; if the new battery still causes shutdowns, check that the instrument firmware is current, as some versions have an aggressive undervoltage threshold that a firmware update corrects. Confirm cell voltage is reading 4.8V nominal at rest before starting a logging session.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SpectroDens powers on fine but cuts off the moment the sensor initialises — is this a battery fault?

Yes, this is a classic BMS trip caused by the current spike at sensor power-up. The sensor initialisation draw on the SpectroDens is brief but sharp, and a degraded or partially discharged Ni-MH pack cannot supply it without the voltage sagging below the cutoff threshold. A replacement pack at full charge clears this immediately. Confirm resting voltage reads 4.8V before fitting and run the calibration cycle from the instrument menu before taking measurements.

The SpectroDens won't accept a charge after sitting unused — dock light stays off and the instrument doesn't respond.

The Ni-MH cells have self-discharged below the voltage point the instrument's charge circuit will engage — typically the dock expects to see a minimum of around 1.0V per cell before it starts charging. Use an external Ni-MH charger at 0.1C (200mA for this 2000mAh pack) to bring the pack up to approximately 4.0V total. Once it crosses that threshold, seat it back in the dock and the charge circuit will resume normally.

Readings are resetting or losing data partway through a colour measurement session — could the battery cause this?

Yes. A voltage dropout under sustained sensor load can interrupt the instrument's active session and cause it to reset without completing the measurement. This is distinct from a full shutdown — the instrument may restart and appear functional, but the in-progress data is lost. The cause is high internal resistance in aged cells producing a momentary sag below the logic rail threshold. Fit a fresh 2000mAh pack, charge it fully, and run the instrument's calibration routine before the next session to confirm stable voltage delivery.
