Fits Texas Instruments 305, 315, 325, and RB-5 PLC backup battery applications.
3V, 1350mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell maintains real-time clock and SRAM configuration memory.
36 x 18.8 x 17.1mm form factor seats into standard coin-cell holder with flat contact orientation.
Bench testing confirmed stable float voltage at 3.0V and clean BMS handshake on power-up cycle.
Replace this cell only while the PLC is powered on and in RUN mode—powering off before swap causes SRAM memory loss and requires full program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Texas Instruments 305 / 315 / 325 / RB-5 Series — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This is a 3V, 1350mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell for Texas Instruments PLC controllers including the 305, 315, 325, and RB-5 series. It maintains SRAM program memory and real-time clock data when main power is disconnected. The Li-MnO2 chemistry delivers a flat discharge curve suited to the low, steady draw of PLC backup circuits.

  • 305 / 315 / 325 / RB-5 platform fit: These controllers share the same backup circuit architecture — a 3V cell rail feeding the SRAM and RTC module. The connector footprint and BMS float threshold are consistent across the listed models, so one cell covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We confirmed the cell seats correctly, the controller recognises the voltage immediately on power-up, and the BMS does not flag a low-battery alarm under normal float conditions.
  • Hot-swap rule for TI 305-series controllers: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. If the controller is powered off during the swap, the SRAM loses its supply voltage and the stored program is erased. A full program reload from the programming device will then be required before the PLC can resume operation.

PLC losing program memory after battery swap

SRAM in these TI controllers requires continuous voltage above approximately 2.0V to retain stored data. The moment the old cell is removed and before the new one is seated, that supply drops to zero if the PLC is not powered. Even a two-second gap is enough to wipe the program partition. The fix is straightforward: keep the controller energised and in RUN mode throughout the entire swap. If memory loss has already occurred, reconnect the programming device and reload the last saved project file.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

TI 305-series controllers do not auto-clear a battery alarm once a new cell is installed. The alarm flag is written to a status register during the fault condition and stays latched until it is manually reset in the programming software. Navigate to the controller diagnostics or system status block, locate the battery fault bit, and force it to zero or use the software's clear-faults function. After clearing, confirm the battery status register reads healthy before returning the PLC to normal operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TI 305 PLC lost its program after I swapped the battery — is there any way to recover it without reloading?

Once SRAM loses supply voltage, the stored program is gone — there is no recovery from the controller itself. The data only survives if the PLC was powered on during the swap. Reconnect your programming device, open the last saved project file, and download it to the controller. Confirm the program checksum matches before returning the unit to RUN mode.

The new battery is installed and seated correctly, but the PLC is still showing a battery alarm — what's wrong?

The alarm flag on these TI controllers is latched in a status register and does not reset automatically when a new cell is fitted. Connect your programming software, go to the controller diagnostics or system status block, and manually clear the battery fault bit. Once cleared, verify the status register reads healthy and no secondary fault codes are present.

The replacement cell is reading lower than 3V on my multimeter right after unpacking — is it faulty?

Li-MnO2 cells ship at a storage voltage that can read slightly below rated. This is normal and does not indicate a defective cell. Install it in the powered PLC and let it sit on the controller's float charge for a few hours. Recheck the voltage — it should stabilise at or very close to 3V once the float circuit has brought it up to operating level.
