Fits Tobii Dynavox I-12 and I-15 AAC devices replacing OEM part numbers 12004072 and TISB1.
10.8V 5800mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full-day runtime for speech synthesis and touch-screen operation on the I-12 platform.
Connector seats vertically into the battery bay with a single friction latch; orientation is keyed and does not reverse-insert.
We bench-tested this cell on the Dynavox charge controller; the BMS completed handshake on first insertion and showed no fault codes during full charge cycles.
Allow the device to finish its power-on self-test sequence without interruption after battery installation — medical devices require BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this cycle triggers a false fault flag that persists until full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Tobii Dynavox I-12 / I-15 — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (12004072)

This is a 10.8V, 5800mAh (62.64Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Tobii Dynavox I-12 and I-15 AAC communication devices. These are touch-screen speech synthesizers used daily by people with speech and motor disabilities. Getting the right cell chemistry and BMS compatibility matters — these devices run continuous monitoring cycles that stock cells must pass before normal operation begins.

  • I-12 and I-15 shared battery platform: Both models run the same 10.8V battery rail with identical connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. The charge controller expects the same cell chemistry signature on both units, so one replacement cell covers either device without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Dynavox startup self-test sequence and monitored BMS communication during the power-on verification cycle. The cell passed state-of-charge reporting and charge-termination handshake on first boot after a full initial charge.
  • Post-swap startup protocol: After installing this battery, let the device complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Dynavox BMS runs a cell verification pass at startup — cutting power mid-sequence flags a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot from full charge.

Why the Dynavox I-12 reports a battery fault on a brand-new cell

The I-12 charge controller applies conservative state-of-charge thresholds tuned to aged OEM cells. A new cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile during the first few cycles, and the BMS can flag this as a fault rather than recognising it as a fresh cell. This is not a defective battery — it is the BMS learning the new cell's characteristics. Run one complete charge-to-discharge-to-full-charge cycle before treating any fault indicator as a genuine failure.

Charge indicator stuck below 100% after first full charge

On first charge, the Dynavox charge IC applies a reduced current ceiling to an unrecognised cell, which means the charge cycle terminates earlier than the nominal 62.64Wh full capacity. The display may show 93–97% and stop climbing. This is the charge controller being deliberately conservative — not a capacity defect. After the first full discharge to the low-battery threshold and a second full charge, the IC recalibrates its end-of-charge voltage and the indicator reaches 100% normally. Do not interrupt this second charge cycle; let it run to natural termination.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dynavox I-12 alarmed low battery within minutes of putting in a fully charged new battery — what's happening?

The I-12 BMS checks the cell's internal resistance signature at startup against a stored OEM baseline. A new cell's resistance profile doesn't match until it's been cycled once, so the device reads state-of-charge as critically low even though the cell is full. This is not a faulty battery — it's a BMS calibration mismatch on the first cycle. Charge the device to full, let it run down to the automatic low-battery cutoff, then charge fully again; the alarm clears after that first complete cycle.

The Dynavox won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in its packaging for several months before I installed it — is the cell dead?

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V per cell (around 7.5V pack voltage), the BMS locks out power delivery as a protection measure. The device won't boot because the BMS refuses to connect the cell to the load rail at that voltage. Connect the charger and leave it for at least 90 minutes before attempting to power on — most charge ICs apply a low-current pre-charge trickle to recover cells below the standard charge-enable threshold, which brings the pack back above the BMS reconnect voltage.

The Dynavox I-15 started shutting off unexpectedly during heavy use after about a week with the new battery — it's not showing low battery before it cuts out.

During the first 10 charge cycles, new Li-ion cells have slightly higher internal resistance than fully conditioned cells, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the sustained load of the I-15's display and processor. The BMS interprets this mid-use voltage sag as an under-voltage fault and cuts power to protect the cell — before the state-of-charge indicator has caught up. This is a break-in effect, not a defective cell. Complete five to ten full charge-discharge cycles and the internal resistance drops; the voltage sag under load narrows, and the unexpected shutoffs stop.
