Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Toitu FD390 Doppler — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (6075)
This is a 9.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Toitu FD390 Doppler ultrasound device. It fits both the FD390 Doppler and FD390 model variants. The battery powers the unit during portable clinical examinations where AC power is not available.
- FD390 and FD390 Doppler compatibility: Both variants share the same voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The 6075 part number covers both. No adapter or modification is needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the FD390 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, completed the handshake, and reported state of charge accurately after the first full cycle.
- Power-on self-test after installation: After fitting this battery, allow the FD390 to complete its full startup self-test without interruption. Medical device BMS firmware runs a verification sequence at boot. Cutting power during that sequence locks in a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.
Why the FD390 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The FD390 charge IC applies a conservative capacity threshold calibrated to the original OEM cell's charge profile. A new replacement cell has not yet established its internal resistance baseline, so the BMS reads the voltage curve as below threshold even when the cell is fully charged. This is not a faulty battery. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the BMS recalibrates its threshold to match the new cell. After that cycle, the low-battery alarm clears and state-of-charge reporting normalises.
FD390 will not power on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day in storage. If the cell dropped below approximately 8.5V before installation, the FD390's BMS recovery threshold blocks startup to protect downstream circuitry. Place the battery on charge for a minimum of 30 minutes before attempting to power the device. Once the cell climbs above the recovery voltage, the BMS re-initialises and the unit boots normally. If the device still does not power on after a 60-minute charge, check the charger output at the connector — it should read between 10.5V and 12V under no load.

Frequently Asked Questions
The FD390 shows a low battery warning the moment I turn it on, even though I just charged the replacement battery overnight — what's happening?
The FD390's charge IC is calibrated to the original OEM cell's internal resistance profile. A new Ni-MH cell reads as low-state until the BMS has seen at least one complete charge-discharge cycle and can map the cell's actual voltage curve. Run the unit through one full discharge and then a full charge before clinical use. After that cycle, the low-battery alarm clears and the state-of-charge reading stabilises.
The FD390 is cutting off mid-examination even though the battery indicator showed adequate charge beforehand — why?
In the first 10 cycles, a new Ni-MH cell delivers slightly less usable current under the FD390's load profile than a conditioned cell does. The BMS detects voltage sag under transducer load and interprets it as a critically depleted cell, triggering a protective shutdown. This is not a fault — it resolves as the cell conditions through repeated cycles. Until the cell is fully conditioned, plan examinations around a charged backup and avoid starting a session below 80% indicated charge.
The FD390 failed its self-test after I swapped the battery — the unit won't clear the fault and complete its boot sequence. What do I do?
The self-test failure is caused by interrupting the BMS learn sequence during the first startup on a new cell. Power the unit off completely, place the battery on charge until the charger indicates full, then reinsert and power on — do not touch any controls until the self-test sequence finishes. If the fault persists after one clean boot attempt, perform a full charge-discharge cycle first, then repeat the startup. The BMS clears the fault once it completes a verified full-charge handshake at or above 10.2V open-circuit.
