Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

USCellular SCH-R390 / Freeform 4 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 3.7V, 900mAh Li-ion battery fits the USCellular SCH-R390, Freeform 4, SCH-R640, and Character handsets. It replaces the original cell when the phone no longer holds a charge through a normal day of calls and messaging. Dimensions are 54.72 x 41.80 x 4.50mm — confirm these against your existing battery before installing.
- SCH-R390 / Freeform 4 / SCH-R640 / Character platform fit: These four models share the same battery bay dimensions, contact pitch, and connector orientation. One cell covers all four without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench. The BMS held voltage within the expected 3.7V nominal range and cut off cleanly at low-voltage threshold without tripping a lockout condition.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installing this cell, run one complete discharge-charge cycle with fast charging disabled. The phone's fuel gauge IC calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — it needs one full cycle against the new cell before percentage readings stabilise.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the SCH-R390 after a cell swap
The SCH-R390's fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the previous cell. When you install a new cell, the IC still references that old curve and miscalculates the voltage cliff. Under modem load — an active call or data burst — the cell voltage drops faster than the IC predicts, and the phone shuts off before the reported percentage reaches zero. Running one full discharge cycle down to automatic shutdown, then charging to 100% uninterrupted, forces the coulomb counter to remap against the new cell's actual capacity. After that cycle, the reported percentage aligns with real remaining charge.
Phone feels warm near the battery on the first charge after replacement
A new cell starts with higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell. The charge IC pushes current into that higher-impedance cell, and the resistance converts more energy to heat than it would on a cycled battery. This is normal and typically resolves within two to three charge cycles as the cell's impedance settles. If the phone stays warm after three full cycles, check that the battery contacts are seated flush and that no debris is raising contact resistance — measure voltage at the contacts and expect 3.7V nominal at 50% state of charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
My SCH-R390 shuts off at around 25% right after I put in the new battery — is the cell faulty?
The cell is not faulty. The fuel gauge IC on the SCH-R390 recalibrated its shutdown threshold against your old cell's discharge curve, not the new one. Under modem load, the new cell's voltage drops faster than the IC expects, and it triggers a protective shutdown before the display hits zero. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% without interruption — the coulomb counter will remap to the new cell and the early shutoffs will stop.
The battery percentage is jumping around after I installed the replacement — sometimes it reads 60%, then drops to 40% in minutes. What's happening?
The fuel gauge IC is still working from its stored model of the old cell. It has not yet measured a full discharge-charge cycle on the new cell, so its state-of-charge estimates are unstable. The fix is one complete discharge-charge cycle: let the phone drain to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% in a single session. After that, the IC recalibrates its internal model against the new cell and percentage reporting stabilises.
The SCH-R390 won't power on at all after the new battery sat in a drawer for a few months before I installed it. What do I do?
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if this one dropped below roughly 2.5V, the BMS entered a deep-discharge lockout to prevent damage. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a computer USB port — and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charger's trickle current will bring the cell voltage up past the BMS re-initialisation threshold, after which the phone should power on normally and begin a standard charge cycle.
