Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

V Tech DM221 Series — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (43AAA70PS2)

This is a 2.4V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the V Tech DM221 baby monitor parent unit. It fits the DM221, DM221-2, DM222, and Digital Audio Monitor DM221 handsets. OEM part number 43AAA70PS2.

  • DM221 and DM222 parent unit compatibility: Both models use the same 2.4V Ni-MH cell pack, identical connector pitch, and the same BMS charge acceptance profile — so one battery covers the full DM221 family without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the DM221 parent unit. The BMS accepted a full charge without rejection, and the unit held a stable 2.4V rail throughout the test.
  • Re-pair after swap: After replacing the battery, re-pair the parent unit with the camera unit. The DM221 drops its wireless link when the parent unit loses power completely — the link does not restore automatically on power-up.

Parent unit range dropping after battery replacement

The DM221's 2.4GHz radio draws more current at distance — the transmitter power scales with available voltage. A new Ni-MH cell that hasn't completed its first full charge cycle sits below its rated terminal voltage, and that directly cuts radio range. This is not a fault with the unit or the battery. Charge the parent unit fully before first use and range returns to normal. A full charge on a 700mAh Ni-MH pack takes approximately 14–16 hours on the DM221's trickle charger.

Parent unit screen stays on overnight and battery is flat by morning

The DM221 parent unit backlit screen is the largest single current draw in normal operation — significantly more than the radio receiver. If the screen timeout is disabled or set too long, sustained overnight screen-on operation will drain a 700mAh Ni-MH cell before morning. Go into the parent unit settings and enable the screen auto-off timer. Set it to the shortest interval that still works for your monitoring routine — the audio alert continues to function regardless of screen state.

Frequently Asked Questions

The DM221 parent unit shows full bars after charging but goes flat within a couple of hours — is the new battery faulty?

Ni-MH cells need two or three full charge-and-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity — a fresh cell straight out of packaging will underperform until it's conditioned. Run the parent unit until it signals low battery, then charge it fully, and repeat that cycle twice. After conditioning, a 700mAh cell should sustain significantly longer operation than what you're seeing in the first session.

Night vision on the camera unit stopped working after we replaced the parent unit battery — what's going on?

Night vision on the DM221 camera unit is independent of the parent unit battery — the IR LEDs are powered by the camera unit's own supply. If night vision has dropped out, check that the camera unit is still paired to the parent unit after the battery swap; a power interruption on the parent side can drop the wireless link. Go through the pairing procedure in the DM221 manual and night vision should restore once the link is re-established.

The parent unit won't connect to the camera at all after fitting the new battery — it just shows "out of range" even when both units are next to each other.

This is a wireless pairing dropout, not a range issue — the DM221 loses its camera link when the parent unit is fully powered down. Place both units within one metre of each other, press and hold the pairing button on the camera unit until the parent unit confirms the link, then move them apart. The "out of range" message clears immediately once the link is re-established.
