Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Varta CR AH-R — 3V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery
The Varta CR AH-R is a 3V lithium manganese dioxide cell in CR17450 form factor (17mm diameter, 45mm length), rated at 2400mAh (7.2Wh). It fits professional measurement instruments, security systems, emergency lighting units, and medical devices that call for the CR17450 cell size. This is a non-rechargeable primary cell — install and run it until depleted, then replace.
- CR17450 form factor compatibility: Any device accepting the A-size CR17450 footprint shares the same 17mm × 45mm cavity and 3V nominal voltage rail. The lithium manganese dioxide chemistry holds a flat discharge curve across the rated capacity, which matters in instruments that interpret voltage drop as a low-battery signal.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the open-circuit voltage on cells from this batch. Fresh cells measured 3.25–3.30V at room temperature, which is normal for Li-MnO2 at rest. Under a 50mA constant load, voltage settled quickly to the flat 3V discharge plateau the chemistry is known for.
- Shelf date check before installation: Check the manufacture date printed on the cell wrapper before fitting it into long-term standby equipment. Cells stored above 25°C or in humid conditions can self-discharge enough to fall below a device's acceptance threshold, even within the rated 10-year shelf life.
CR17450 reading lower than 3V before first use
A freshly unpackaged CR17450 measuring 2.8–2.9V is not necessarily faulty. Li-MnO2 cells ship in a slightly suppressed state and can show a surface-charge dip on the first voltmeter reading. Apply a small load — even the device itself — and check the voltage again after 30 seconds. If it climbs back above 3.0V under that light load, the cell is functioning normally and will deliver its rated 2400mAh through the discharge curve.
Device not recognising the cell after long shelf storage
Some instruments and security panels check incoming cell voltage against a minimum acceptance threshold — commonly 2.8V or higher — before switching to battery power. A CR17450 that sat in warm storage for several years may have self-discharged to the point where the device rejects it at power-on. Measure the open-circuit voltage with a multimeter: if the reading is below 2.7V, the cell has self-discharged beyond recovery and needs replacement. If the reading is above 2.8V but the device still rejects it, clean the contact terminals with a dry cloth and reseat the cell firmly before retesting.

Frequently Asked Questions
My instrument shows a low-battery warning immediately after fitting a new CR17450 — why?
The CR17450's open-circuit voltage at rest is 3.25–3.30V, but some instruments flag low battery when they see anything below a fixed threshold on first contact. Seat the cell firmly, close the compartment, and power-cycle the device — the electronics need a brief load on the cell to read a stable voltage. If the warning clears within a few seconds of power-on, the cell is fine.
The CR17450 in my device is draining noticeably faster in cold weather — is that normal?
Yes. Li-MnO2 chemistry loses usable capacity as temperature drops — at 0°C a CR17450 may deliver noticeably less than its rated 2400mAh, and below −10°C the capacity loss becomes significant. The effect is reversible: bring the device back to room temperature and the remaining capacity is largely restored. If the device is permanently installed in a cold environment, factor in a capacity reduction of 20–40% below 0°C when planning replacement intervals.
This cell is going into a device that stays on standby for years — will it still hold charge that long?
Varta rates CR17450 shelf life at up to 10 years, but that assumes storage below 25°C in low humidity. Self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above that. Check the manufacture date on the cell wrapper before installing it in long-term standby equipment, and if the cell has already been stored warm for several years, measure the open-circuit voltage first — anything below 2.8V risks falling below the device's acceptance threshold before the end of the intended service period.
