Run the pack through one full charge cycle in the dock before trusting the bar reading. After a complete charge, the indicator should display full bars at rest.

VXD720 drops to reduced TX power partway through a shift

Sustained RF output draws significantly more current than standby or receive. If the cell voltage sags under that load, the VXD720 firmware steps down transmit power to protect the circuit before the BMS trips entirely. This is not a faulty pack — it indicates the cell voltage has fallen below the radio's high-power TX threshold. Check the bar indicator immediately after a low-power event. If it reads two bars or fewer, place the pack on charge rather than continuing the shift on that battery.

My VXD720 charger dock is blinking a fault LED and won't start charging the new pack — what's causing it?

The dock fault LED almost always means the BMS handshake didn't complete on insertion. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly until it clicks. If the LED still faults, the pack may have arrived below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold — place it in a known-working charger or try a second dock to confirm the pack reaches 7.5V before returning to the primary dock.

The VXD720 cuts out completely mid-transmission on the new battery — is the BMS tripping?

Yes. The PTT transmit current spike can trigger the BMS overcurrent protection if the cell impedance is above threshold or the pack is very cold. Check the ambient temperature — below 5°C, lithium-ion cells can't deliver peak transmit current cleanly. If the temperature is normal, fully charge the pack and retest. A BMS that trips on transmit surge but recovers immediately when PTT is released confirms overcurrent lockout, not a dead pack.

New pack inserted and fully charged, but the VXD720 bar indicator shows one fewer bar than it did with the old battery — is this a capacity mismatch?

No. The VXD720 bar indicator reads voltage thresholds, not capacity. A new pack with slightly different cell chemistry can sit at a marginally different resting voltage after charge termination, shifting the threshold display by one bar. Run the pack through one full discharge and recharge cycle under normal radio use. After that conditioning cycle, the resting voltage stabilises and the bar reading will reflect actual charge state accurately.
