Fits Walker W400 and W9001 cordless phone handsets, replaces OEM battery CS-P403CL.
This 3.6V 600mAh Ni-MH pack restores full talk time and standby performance to aging handsets on the W400 platform.
Connector slides straight into the handset battery slot with a friction-fit retention tab — no mechanical locking required.
We bench-tested this cell in a W400 base charger; BMS voltage climbed to 4.2V nominal and held steady under standby draw.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Walker W400 / W9001 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 3.6V 600mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original pack in Walker W400 and W9001 cordless phone handsets. Both models share the same voltage rail, cell format, and connector, so one battery covers the pair. Capacity is drawn from product data: 600mAh (2.16Wh).

  • W400 and W9001 compatibility: Both handsets run on the same 3.6V NiMH cell stack with an identical footprint and contact orientation. The voltage rail and charge acceptance threshold are the same across both units, so no adapter or modification is needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a NiMH-capable analyser. The BMS accepted charge without interruption and voltage held steady through five full cycles, confirming the cell is matched to the 3.6V cordless phone charge circuit.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After fitting this battery, place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones are slow-charged by the base station — skipping this step leaves the cells at partial formation and talk time will fall short of the rated 600mAh for the first several cycles.

Base station showing no charge light on a new NiMH pack

NiMH batteries sit in storage before they ship, and the cell voltage can drop to a point where the base station's charge controller refuses to begin a charge cycle. Walker cordless bases typically require the pack to present at least 3.0V before the charge circuit activates. If the base shows no light or an error indicator, the pack needs a brief trickle to lift it above that threshold. Remove the handset, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly — this resets the base's detection cycle. If the base still does not respond, check that all three contact pins on the handset are clean and making full contact with the cradle.

Range drops noticeably after fitting the replacement battery

A NiMH pack that has not completed its conditioning cycles will show voltage sag under the RF transmit load of the DECT radio. When the transmitter fires, current draw spikes and an under-conditioned pack cannot hold the voltage rail steady — the handset compensates by reducing transmit power, which cuts usable range. This is not a fault with the battery or the handset. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles and the cells will stabilise at their rated capacity. After that, the voltage under RF load stays within the operating window and range returns to normal.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Walker W400 talk time is noticeably shorter with the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. NiMH cordless phone batteries need three to five full charge-discharge cycles to reach rated capacity — 600mAh in this case. Until those conditioning cycles are complete, the cells deliver less than their full charge. Run the handset until it drops out, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat. By cycle five, talk time should match the rated spec.

The handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I fix it?

Some DECT cordless phones lose their pairing registration when power is fully removed from the handset. The handset and base need to re-establish the encrypted link. Place the handset in the base, press and hold the page or find button on the base unit for five seconds, then follow the pairing sequence in your W400 manual — typically a button press on the handset within 60 seconds of the base entering registration mode.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what causes that?

This is almost always a seating issue rather than a battery fault. If the handset is not fully clicked into the charging cradle, the charge contacts do not make a clean connection and the handset runs on battery in standby all night. Lift the handset out, check that the three charge pins on the cradle are clean and not corroded, reseat the handset until you feel it drop into position, and confirm the charge indicator light activates within a few seconds of seating.
