Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

WSD WSD-EMS8W27-XX — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (201.041)
This is a 7.4V 2600mAh lithium-ion replacement battery for the WSD WSD-EMS8W27-XX emergency lighting unit. It slots into the fitting in place of the original 201.041 cell. Voltage, capacity, and connector match the factory specification exactly.
- WSD-EMS8W27-XX platform fit: The WSD-EMS8W27-XX series runs a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion pack with a fixed float charge circuit. The charge controller expects a cell within a narrow acceptance voltage — this replacement ships within that window so the controller picks it up without manual intervention.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a simulated mains-failure test cycle on the WSD-EMS8W27-XX fitting. The BMS accepted load immediately, the charge LED transitioned from red to green after a full conditioning charge, and the cell held voltage above the low-voltage cutoff threshold throughout the test duration.
- First-cycle test requirement: Within 24 hours of installation, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller log the new cell's capacity baseline and confirms the cell accepts load before your next scheduled compliance inspection.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
The WSD-EMS8W27-XX charge circuit uses a float voltage comparator to confirm the cell is within the acceptance window before switching the indicator to green. A replacement cell that has been in storage can arrive at a resting voltage slightly below that threshold. The controller interprets this as a fault rather than a low-charge state and holds the red indicator. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 24-hour charge cycle — the controller will re-evaluate cell voltage once it reaches float level and transition to green.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A fresh cell that has not completed one full charge-discharge cycle will not deliver its rated capacity on the first test. The cell arrives with a partial state of charge, and the charge controller may not have logged a complete capacity baseline yet. Run one manual test cycle — full charge, then a full duration discharge via the test button — before scheduling the fitting for a compliance duration test. After that conditioning cycle, the cell should hold voltage above 6.0V at the end of the rated test period.

Frequently Asked Questions
The charge LED on my WSD-EMS8W27-XX has been red for two days since I fitted the new battery — is the cell faulty?
Almost certainly not. The WSD-EMS8W27-XX float charge circuit will not switch to green until the cell voltage reaches its acceptance threshold, and a replacement cell from storage can sit below that level for the first 24–48 hours on charge. Leave the fitting powered on mains continuously and check again after a full 48-hour charge. If the indicator has not moved to green by then, measure the cell voltage across the connector — it should read above 7.2V before the controller accepts it.
My emergency light dims and then cuts out after a few minutes during the monthly test — the old battery lasted the full duration.
This points to the new cell not having completed a conditioning cycle yet. On the first activation, a cell that arrived partially charged will sag under load before it has had a chance to reach full capacity through a complete charge cycle. Run a full 24-hour mains charge first, then trigger the test button and let it run the entire rated duration without interruption. That first complete discharge allows the charge controller to map the cell's actual capacity and prevents premature voltage-sag cutoff on subsequent tests.
The fitting still shows a fault LED even after I confirmed the new 201.041 battery is correctly seated and the connector is secure.
Some WSD emergency light fittings latch a fault condition in firmware and do not clear it automatically when the fault is resolved. Remove mains power from the fitting completely, wait 30 seconds, then restore power. This forces a controller reset and allows it to re-read the cell state from scratch. If the fault LED persists after the reset, check that the cell connector is fully clicked in and that no pin is bent — a partial connection can register as an open-circuit fault even when the battery appears seated.
