Fits X-Rite E15-31 and E15-31 Shade Vision spectrophotometers; replaces OEM part E15-31.
3.6V Ni-MH pack at 2000mAh delivers stable voltage during color measurement cycles without mid-session dropout.
Cylindrical cell with flat contact terminals; seats into the instrument's battery compartment with positive end forward.
We bench-tested this cell in the E15-31 measurement mode; BMS accepted the charge handshake and held voltage steady under sustained probe load.
After installation, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment — the device maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

X-Rite E15-31 Shade Vision — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (E15-31)

This 3.6V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original pack in the X-Rite E15-31 and E15-31 Shade Vision spectrophotometer. It powers the instrument's colour measurement and spectral analysis functions during field surveys, lab testing, and production-line quality checks. Voltage and cell count match the original spec exactly.

  • E15-31 and Shade Vision compatibility: Both models run the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH architecture and share the same connector footprint and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers both variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the E15-31's measurement sequence, including the xenon flash trigger and sensor initialisation pulse. The BMS held within spec at each probe power-up without tripping cutoff.
  • Post-install calibration step: After fitting the new battery, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument's calibration menu before starting any measurement session. The E15-31 maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement pass, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS lockout after the E15-31 sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day at room temperature. A pack left in storage for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.8V on a 3.6V Ni-MH cell — and the BMS enters a sleep state to prevent cell damage. When this happens, the charger sees no cell response and stops the charge cycle before current flows. To recover the pack, place it on the charger and leave it connected for a full charge cycle; most chargers apply a trickle current that wakes the BMS within 15–30 minutes, after which normal charging resumes.

Readings resetting or logging gaps mid-session on a battery showing charge

Sustained spectral measurement draws a continuous load that a degraded or partially discharged Ni-MH cell handles poorly — internal resistance rises under load and terminal voltage sags below the instrument's operating floor momentarily, triggering a soft reset even though the indicator still shows battery present. This appears as a dropped data point or a mid-session restart in the logged results, not as a full shutdown. Fitting a fresh 2000mAh pack reduces internal resistance and keeps terminal voltage stable across a full measurement session. If the symptom persists after installing a new pack, check that the contact pads in the battery bay are clean and making firm contact — oxidised pads add series resistance and reproduce the same sag behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions

The E15-31 powers on but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the PC — is this a battery issue?

Yes. USB data transfer adds a second simultaneous load on top of the instrument's active measurement circuitry, and a weak or partially discharged Ni-MH cell cannot sustain both draws without terminal voltage dropping below the shutdown threshold. The instrument cuts power to protect the sensor electronics rather than corrupt a transfer. Fit a fully charged replacement pack, run the instrument's calibration cycle first, then retry the transfer — if the shutdown disappears, the original cell had insufficient capacity to handle the combined draw.

My new pack won't charge at all after the instrument sat in storage — the charger light just stays off or blinks an error.

A Ni-MH pack stored for several months can self-discharge to a voltage the charger's detection circuit reads as a fault rather than a depleted cell. The BMS enters sleep mode below roughly 2.8V and blocks normal charge initiation. Connect the pack to the charger and leave it undisturbed for up to 30 minutes — the trickle current from most Ni-MH chargers is enough to wake the BMS and allow the full charge cycle to start. If no response after 30 minutes, verify charger output voltage is reaching the contacts; a failed charger and a sleeping BMS produce identical symptoms.

The E15-31 shows a low-battery warning almost immediately after I fit a new pack, even though it charged overnight.

The E15-31 maps battery state during its calibration routine — if calibration was skipped after installing the new pack, the instrument's indicator is still referencing the voltage curve of the old, depleted cell. This causes it to misread a full 3.6V Ni-MH pack as nearly empty. Go into the instrument menu and run a full calibration cycle before taking any measurements. After calibration completes, the low-battery warning should clear and the indicator will track the new cell's actual state correctly.
