Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Xiaomi Mi 5X — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BN31)
This is a 3000mAh, 3.85V Li-Polymer cell built to replace the BN31 battery in the Xiaomi Mi 5X and Mi 5X Dual SIM. It fits all Mi 5X variants, including TD-LTE models. Install it when the original cell no longer holds charge or the phone shuts down unexpectedly under load.
- Mi 5X and Dual SIM variant fitment: All Mi 5X variants share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers every model on the compatibility list — the BN31 part number is consistent across all regional and LTE variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a Mi 5X unit and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without flagging a fault. The charge IC initialised correctly and the fuel gauge began tracking state-of-charge from the first cycle.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after install: After fitting this cell, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle at standard speed. The Mi 5X fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the cell's discharge curve — skipping this step causes the OS to read percentage from a curve mapped to the old, degraded cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Mi 5X after a cell swap
The Mi 5X uses a coulomb-counter fuel gauge that retains the old cell's discharge curve in memory after a swap. The new cell has a steeper voltage drop at low state-of-charge compared to a worn cell. When the phone hits a load spike — LTE handoff, screen-on burst — the new cell's voltage dips below the PMIC's cutoff threshold while the gauge still reads 25%. The fix is one complete discharge cycle without fast charging, letting the fuel gauge IC remap its curve to the new cell. After that cycle, the percentage reading and actual cutoff voltage will align.
Mi 5X not powering on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Li-Polymer cells self-discharge during storage. If the BN31 cell dropped below 2.5V per cell before installation, the BMS enters lockout mode and blocks current flow to protect the cell from damage. The phone will show no response — no charging indicator, no vibration. Connect the phone to a wall adapter rated at 5V/1A or higher and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The BMS requires a trickle-charge period to exit lockout; once cell voltage climbs above 2.8V, the BMS releases and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Mi 5X shows the wrong battery percentage after I replaced the BN31 — it jumped from 60% to 15% with no warning. What's causing this?
The fuel gauge IC on the Mi 5X is still reading from the discharge curve it mapped to the old, worn cell. The new BN31 cell has a different voltage-to-capacity relationship, so the percentage readout drifts badly until the IC recalibrates. Run one full cycle — discharge until the phone powers off on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with fast charging disabled. After that single cycle, the coulomb counter resets against the new cell's actual curve and the percentage stabilises.
Fast charging stopped working on the Mi 5X right after I put in the new battery — it's only doing slow charging now. Is the charger the problem?
The charger is likely fine. On the first cycle after a cell swap, the Mi 5X charge IC can default to standard 5V charging while it verifies the new cell's BMS handshake. We saw this on the bench — the proprietary fast-charge protocol didn't engage until after the first full charge cycle completed. Charge the phone fully at standard speed once, then reconnect your fast charger. The IC should negotiate fast-charge on the next plug-in.
My Mi 5X gets noticeably warm near the battery area during the first few charges after the swap. Should I be worried?
A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC pushes slightly more voltage to maintain current flow — that extra energy dissipates as heat. It's most noticeable in the first two or three charge cycles and decreases as the cell's impedance settles. If the phone stays warm past the fourth cycle or feels hot rather than warm, check that the replacement cell is seated flat with no corner lifting, as a poorly seated cell traps heat. Normal warmth during the first cycles does not indicate a fault.
