Fits Yaesu FT-3D, FT-8DR, VX-8R, and VX-8DR — replaces SBR-14, SBR-14Li, FNB-102LI, and SBR-15Li packs.
This 7.4V 2000mAh Li-ion cell delivers the voltage and capacity the FT-3D needs for full dual-band TX on VHF and UHF without sag.
Connector is a two-pin Yaesu-standard plug with positive and negative alignment — seats flush into the radio's battery slot with locking tab engagement on both sides.
We bench-tested the pack under sustained RF load on the FT-3D; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion and held 7.4V throughout a full discharge cycle with no premature cutoff.
On first use in the FT-3D, if the charger dock shows a fault LED, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Yaesu platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Yaesu FT-3D / VX-8R Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (SBR-14)

This is a 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion replacement for the Yaesu SBR-14 / FNB-102LI battery pack. It fits the FT-3D, FT-8DR, VX-8R, and VX-8DR handhelds. Drop this in where the original pack lives — same voltage, same footprint, same connector orientation.

  • FT-3D / VX-8R platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V two-cell battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the entire family because the charging dock reads voltage and thermistor data from the same contact strip across all four variants.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and transmit cycles on the FT-3D dock. The BMS accepted the initial handshake without a fault LED, held stable voltage through sustained PTT presses, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • First insertion on the Yaesu dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and firmly reseat it. The Yaesu dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before it will begin charging.

Why the FT-3D cuts out mid-transmission on a fresh battery

A PTT press on the FT-3D pulls a hard current spike — often 1.5A or more — in the first millisecond of transmit. A new pack sitting at storage voltage (typically around 3.7V per cell) has higher internal impedance than a fully charged cell. That impedance causes a voltage dip sharp enough to trip the BMS overcurrent circuit before the RF output even stabilises. Charge the pack to full before the first transmit session — internal impedance drops significantly above 4.0V per cell — and the cutout stops.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge

The FT-3D uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a fuel gauge chip. A new cell delivered at storage voltage reads lower than a cycled pack at the same state of charge, so the radio maps it to a lower bar tier. Run one full charge-and-transmit cycle and the cell voltage rises to its nominal curve. After that first cycle, the bar count aligns with actual charge level — typically reading full at or above 8.2V pack voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My FT-3D cuts out the moment I press PTT — is the new battery faulty?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a faulty cell. A storage-voltage pack has higher internal impedance, and the FT-3D's transmit current spike — often exceeding 1.5A — drops cell voltage sharply enough to trigger the protection circuit. Charge the pack fully before your first transmit session. The cutout stops once the cells are above 4.0V each and impedance falls.

The Yaesu charging dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging the new pack — what's wrong?

The dock is failing the BMS handshake, usually because the gold contact strip has a thin film of residue blocking the thermistor or data pin. Remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat it firmly until it clicks. If the fault LED still shows, check that pack voltage reads at least 6.0V across the terminals with a multimeter — below that threshold the dock will refuse to initiate the charge cycle.

After a long shift the FT-3D drops to noticeably weaker audio on received signals and TX range feels shorter — why?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output. As the pack discharges through extended transmit cycles, cell voltage drops below the point where the radio maintains full output power, and the FT-3D steps down TX wattage to stay within its voltage operating window. The fix is to carry a second charged pack for shifts longer than a few hours, or return to the dock at the midpoint. A pack reading below 7.0V under load should be swapped out.
