Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra DS2278 / DS22 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT-000317-01)
This 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Zebra DS2278, DS2278SR, DS22, and CR2278 wireless barcode scanners. It matches the original voltage rail and connector, so it seats and communicates with the BMS without modification. Capacity figures come from product data — 2600mAh / 9.62Wh.
- DS2278 and DS22 series fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, contact pin layout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers all variants in the family without adapters or firmware changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a DS2278SR unit. The BMS accepted the cell, reported state-of-charge correctly to the host device, and held voltage within spec across repeated scan bursts combined with active Bluetooth polling.
- First-shift commissioning: After installing, seat the scanner in its CR2278 cradle and let it complete a full charge cycle before putting it into pick-and-pack rotation. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged pack prevents a false BMS trip on the first burst of the shift.
Cradle showing charging error on a new pack
A charging error on a fresh install almost always comes down to contact resistance at the dock pins, not a fault with the cell itself. Dust, warehouse grime, or residue from the previous pack can coat the contacts on both the battery and the cradle. Wipe the gold contacts on the battery base with a dry cloth, then clean the cradle pins with a cotton swab. Reseat the scanner firmly — the cradle needs full pin engagement to initiate the charge handshake.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The DS2278 draws from one cell to power both the Bluetooth radio and the scan imager simultaneously. During a rapid burst — tight label sequences in a fast pick environment — the combined inrush can pull voltage low enough for the BMS to momentarily restrict output, dropping the radio link. This shows as a disconnect rather than a scan failure. Keeping the pack above 30% charge during high-frequency shifts keeps the voltage rail stable enough to sustain both loads without interruption.

Frequently Asked Questions
My DS2278 stopped reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?
The imager needs a minimum voltage threshold to fire at full power, and a new pack shipped in storage state may be too low to meet it. The scanner powers on but the imager output drops below the level needed to decode reliably. Place the unit in the CR2278 cradle immediately after install and let it charge before triggering any scans. Once the cell reaches at least 3.6V the imager will operate at full intensity.
The scanner feels warm after a long shift — is that a problem with this pack?
Warmth on the DS2278 body after an extended shift is normal — the housing is compact and there's no active ventilation, so heat from the Bluetooth radio and scan imager accumulates inside the casing. The pack itself generates low heat at 3.7V Li-ion chemistry under typical scan loads. If the battery feels hot to the touch rather than warm, check that the cradle contacts are clean and making full contact — a high-resistance connection during charging generates more heat than a clean dock. A surface temperature above 45°C at the battery base warrants a contact inspection.
This replacement isn't lasting as long through a shift as our old OEM pack did — why?
Scan burst frequency and Bluetooth polling interval are the two biggest variables that separate a short shift from a full one — neither is controlled by the battery itself. If your team's scan rate has increased, or if the scanner is polling a host system more frequently, the draw profile is heavier than before. Check that the scanner's sleep timeout is still configured correctly, as a longer active-on period after each scan burns continuous radio power. If the pack is genuinely fading early, check the cradle contacts first — a dirty dock delivers a partial charge cycle and the scanner starts each shift below 100%.
