Fits Zebra QLN420 and ZQ630 mobile printers; replaces OEM part numbers P1040687, P1050667-016, and BTRY-MPP-68MA1-01.
7.4V, 5200mAh lithium-ion delivers stable voltage to thermal print head and paper feed motors during field operations.
Connector slides vertically into battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush against printer housing.
Bench testing showed BMS accepted full charge cycle without fault codes; thermal head voltage remained stable under continuous label printing.
After installation, charge fully and print 5 test receipts before deployment—portable printer feed motors require calibration print sequence to confirm BMS current profile matches the new cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra QLN420 / ZQ630 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (P1040687)

This 7.4V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Zebra QLN420 and ZQ630 mobile printers. Both are portable thermal printers used in retail, logistics, and field service where workers print labels and receipts away from fixed power. It also cross-references part numbers P1050667-016 and BTRY-MPP-68MA1-01.

  • QLN420 and ZQ630 compatibility: Both models share the same 7.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between these two printers with one spare pack works without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the QLN420 power-on sequence and a sustained print job. The BMS held voltage within spec across the thermal head, paper feed motor, and radio module simultaneously — no mid-job cutoff or voltage collapse observed.
  • First-deployment print sequence: After installing, charge fully and print five test labels before putting the unit into active service. The paper feed motor draws a sharp current spike on each feed cycle, and running that sequence lets the BMS log the correct current profile for the new cell — preventing false low-battery cutoffs during early use.

Why the QLN420 refuses to print after sitting unused for weeks

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below roughly 6.0V — the QLN420's minimum motor-drive threshold — the printer powers on but immediately rejects print jobs because the BMS blocks current to the thermal head and feed motor. This is not a printer fault. Place the battery on charge for a full cycle before attempting any print jobs. If the charge LED does not light within two minutes of connecting, the cell may have dropped below the BMS recovery floor and needs a trickle-charge wake cycle first.

Faded, patchy, or inconsistent print output mid-job

The QLN420's thermal print head needs a stable voltage supply to hit and hold the correct head temperature. When battery voltage sags under load — typically below 6.8V on a degraded or partially charged pack — head temperature drops mid-line, and the result is faded or missing dots on the label. This is not a head fault and replacing the printhead will not fix it. Check the battery charge level first. If output improves at full charge but fades again within a short print run, the cell is losing capacity and the battery needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Zebra QLN420 keeps dropping its Bluetooth connection mid-print job — could the battery be causing this?

Yes. The QLN420's Bluetooth radio is one of the first loads the BMS throttles when voltage drops under sustained draw. When the thermal head and feed motor pull current simultaneously, a weak or low-charge battery sags enough to starve the radio, causing the connection to drop mid-job. This is not a pairing or app issue. Charge the battery fully and confirm resting voltage is at or above 7.2V before blaming the radio module.

The paper feed on my QLN420 is jamming or only partially advancing the label — what's happening?

The feed motor relies on consistent torque to advance label stock cleanly through the platen. When battery voltage falls below roughly 6.8V under load, motor torque drops and the feed roller can't maintain enough pressure to pull the label through — resulting in a partial advance or jam. Clear the jam, charge the battery to full, and run a test feed cycle. If jamming only happens late in a shift when the battery is lower, that's a capacity-fade issue and the pack needs replacing.

My QLN420 won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for a few months — is the battery dead?

Not necessarily. Lithium-ion cells that drop below approximately 2.5V per cell (5.0V pack voltage) trigger a hard BMS lockout that blocks normal charging. Connect the printer to its dock or USB-C charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charger needs time to push a trickle current through the BMS recovery circuit before the battery will accept a full charge. If the charge indicator light still does not activate after that window, the cell has passed the recovery threshold and the battery needs replacing.
