Fits Zebra EM 220, EM 220 Mobile Printer, and EM220II models; replaces OEM part numbers P1002512, P1002514, AK18913-001.
7.4V lithium-ion at 1000mAh delivers stable voltage across full charge cycle for consistent thermal head temperature and paper feed motor torque.
Connector seats vertically into battery slot with single locking tab; confirm tab engagement before closing compartment door.
We bench tested this cell on EM 220 print runs at varying charge states; BMS held steady voltage curve with no early thermal cutoff.
After installing, charge fully and print 5 test receipts before field deployment — thermal head requires stable voltage profile to confirm BMS current regulation matches motor load.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Zebra EM 220 Mobile Printer — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (P1002512)

This 7.4V, 1000mAh Li-ion battery fits the Zebra EM 220 and EM220II mobile receipt and label printers. It replaces OEM part numbers P1002512, P1002514, and AK18913-001. The cell sits inside the printer's rear battery bay and powers the thermal print head, paper feed motor, and wireless radio simultaneously.

  • EM 220 and EM220II compatibility: Both models share the same 7.4V battery rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The same cell works across the standard and Series II variants without any modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through repeated print jobs on the EM 220 platform. The BMS held a stable discharge curve across thermal head activation spikes and sustained no fault trips during motor-start draw.
  • First-use print sequence: After installing the battery, charge it fully and print five test receipts before deploying the unit in the field. The EM 220's paper feed motor draws a calibration-level current on the first few cycles, and running those prints confirms the BMS current profile is correctly matched to the new cell.

Why the EM 220 stops printing after sitting unused for weeks

Li-ion cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month. The EM 220's BMS has a minimum boot voltage — if the cell drops below that threshold, the printer powers on but refuses to drive the thermal head or paper feed motor. This is not a hardware fault. The BMS is protecting the cell from damage during a high-draw print cycle at low voltage. A full charge restoring the cell to 8.4V clears the lockout state immediately.

Bluetooth dropping mid-print job on the EM 220

When battery charge falls below roughly 20%, the EM 220's wireless radio competes with the thermal head and feed motor for current. The radio loses that draw contest and drops the connection. The printer may show as paired on the host device but stop receiving data mid-job. Charge the battery above 50% before starting large label batches, and check that the printed voltage reading in the printer's self-test page reads above 7.0V under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

The EM 220 powers on but the paper won't feed — why is this happening with a new battery?

The paper feed motor needs a minimum voltage to generate enough torque to drive the platen. If the replacement battery shipped partially discharged, the BMS may allow the printer to boot but restrict motor output to protect the cell. Charge the battery fully to 8.4V first, then attempt the feed. If the jam clears after a full charge, the motor is fine — the cell just needed a complete cycle before deployment.

Print is coming out faded or uneven — could the battery be causing this?

Yes. The EM 220's thermal head requires a stable, consistent voltage to heat each dot element evenly. A partially discharged or degraded cell causes voltage sag during the print pulse, which drops head temperature mid-line and produces faded or streaky output. This is not a paper or head issue. Charge the battery fully and run five test prints — if density returns to normal, the cell was the cause. Check that the self-test page shows voltage above 7.2V during printing.

The EM 220 sat in a storage locker for several months and now won't accept a charge — is it recoverable?

Li-ion cells that sit discharged for extended periods can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that point, most standard chargers won't initiate a charge cycle because the BMS flags the cell as unsafe. This battery may not be recoverable if it has been in deep discharge for more than two to three months. Connect it to the EM 220's cradle charger and leave it for 30 minutes — if the charge LED does not activate, the cell has passed the recovery threshold and the battery needs replacement.
