These are clinical-grade AEDs used in emergency cardiac care — the battery must pass the device's internal self-test before it is cleared for use.

Why the AED Pro flags a battery fault after a confirmed full charge

ZOLL defibrillators apply a chemistry-calibration threshold during self-test. A new cell that has not completed at least one full charge-discharge cycle can read as marginal against this threshold, even at 100% state of charge. The device's charge IC logs this as a battery health warning rather than a capacity warning. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before placing the unit back in service — this allows the BMS to update its internal capacity baseline and clear the fault flag.

AED will not power on after battery sat in storage

Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If a replacement pack has been on a shelf for several months, its resting voltage may drop below the ZOLL BMS recovery threshold — typically around 9.0V for a 10.8V nominal pack. Below this threshold the device refuses to boot as a protective measure. Connect the battery to a known-good ZOLL charger and allow a slow recovery charge of at least two hours before attempting to power the unit on. If the charger LED does not respond within 30 minutes, check resting cell voltage directly — a reading below 8.5V indicates the pack requires a controlled pre-charge recovery step before normal charging can begin.

The device passed its self-test after the battery swap, then shut off unexpectedly during a training drill — what caused that?

New lithium-ion cells deliver lower peak current in the first 10 charge-discharge cycles than they will at full conditioning. ZOLL defibrillators draw a sharp load spike during capacitor charging, and a partially conditioned cell can sag enough voltage under that load for the BMS to trip the low-voltage cutoff. This is not a defective battery — it is the cell responding to a load profile it has not yet been conditioned for. Complete at least five full charge-discharge cycles before using the unit in any scenario that requires a full charge sequence, and verify resting voltage sits above 10.5V before each session.

The charge indicator on my ZOLL charger stopped at around 95% and won't reach 100% — is the replacement pack not accepting a full charge?

ZOLL chargers apply a conservative termination limit on cells they haven't seen before. On the first charge cycle, the charge IC caps the top-off current earlier than normal as a protective measure against an uncharacterised cell. This is normal behaviour and not a sign of reduced capacity. Run the battery through one full discharge on the device, then recharge completely — on the second cycle the charge IC relaxes the termination threshold and the indicator reaches 100%. If it still stops short after two full cycles, check charger contact pins for oxidation and reseat the battery firmly before ruling out a cell issue.
