Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ResMed VS III — 24V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (88888455)
This 24V, 2000mAh (48Wh) Ni-MH battery replaces OEM part 88888455 in the ResMed VS III portable ventilator. It fits the VS III directly and matches the original voltage rail and connector configuration. Capacity figure is sourced from product data — 2000mAh at 24V nominal.
- VS III platform fit: The VS III runs a 24V bus with a BMS that validates cell chemistry and voltage signature at power-on. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector pinout, so the device completes its startup handshake without throwing a battery fault.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a VS III-class load profile. The BMS accepted the battery on first insertion, completed the self-test sequence, and the charge indicator tracked normally across the first three cycles.
- Post-swap startup protocol: After installing this battery, let the VS III complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification routine at startup — cutting power during this sequence triggers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Why the VS III alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The VS III BMS stores a learned capacity profile from the previous cell. When a new battery is installed, the BMS compares its charge acceptance curve against that stored profile. A fresh Ni-MH cell charges differently in its first few cycles — the voltage rise comes slightly later, which the BMS can misread as insufficient charge. Run one full charge-discharge cycle before relying on the charge indicator. After that conditioning cycle, the BMS recalibrates its threshold to match the new cell's actual curve.
VS III will not power on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage — this battery ships at a partial state of charge, not full. If the cell has dropped below the VS III's BMS recovery threshold (typically around 20V on a 24V Ni-MH pack), the device will not respond to the power button. Connect the VS III to mains power first and allow it to charge for at least two hours before attempting a cold start. Once the pack reaches the BMS recovery floor, the device will boot normally.

Frequently Asked Questions
The VS III shows a low battery alarm the moment I power it on with the new battery — the charge light was solid green before I installed it. What's happening?
A solid green charge light means the charger finished its cycle, but the VS III's BMS runs its own acceptance check at power-on using a learned capacity profile from the old cell. A new Ni-MH cell has a slightly different charge curve in its first few cycles, and the BMS flags this as insufficient charge. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the new battery — after that, the BMS recalibrates to the new cell's curve and the alarm clears. Do not use the device clinically until that conditioning cycle is complete.
The VS III shuts off unexpectedly during a therapy session, but the battery shows as charged before use. Is the new battery faulty?
This is a load-profile issue, not a faulty cell. Medical ventilators draw hard, variable current during active therapy — the VS III stresses new Ni-MH cells harder in the first 10 charge cycles than a bench charger does. A new cell's internal resistance is slightly higher before it is broken in, which causes voltage sag under the device's peak draw, triggering a low-voltage cutoff. Complete 5–10 full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the battery during extended sessions, and verify pack voltage is at or above 24V before starting therapy.
The charge indicator on my VS III never reaches 100% on the first few charges with the new battery — it stops at around 80–90%. Is the battery defective?
It is not defective. The VS III charge IC applies a conservative current limit on cells it has not yet profiled, capping the displayed state of charge below 100% until the BMS completes a learn cycle. This is normal behaviour on the first one to three charges with a new Ni-MH pack. Allow the battery to complete at least two full charge cycles without interrupting the charge sequence — after the learn cycle finishes, the charge indicator will reach 100% and track accurately.
