Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Welch-Allyn Connex Spot Monitor — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (901000)
This 7.4V 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original power cell in the Welch-Allyn Connex Spot and Connex Spot Monitor. It also fits Grason-Stadler and Pressure unit Connex Spot configurations. Cross-references include OEM part numbers 901000, BATT22, OM11878, and TM78370.
- Connex Spot platform fit: These monitor variants share the same 7.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers the full platform without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, full load, and rest on the Connex Spot platform. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its verification handshake, and reported accurate state-of-charge across the full discharge curve.
- Post-install self-test protocol: After inserting this battery, allow the Connex Spot to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification sequence at startup. Cutting power during this sequence logs a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Device not completing boot sequence after battery swap
The Connex Spot runs a BMS learn cycle on first use with a new cell. If the device stalls mid-boot or returns a battery error, the BMS has not yet profiled the replacement cell's chemistry. This is not a fault with the cell. Run one full charge-discharge cycle before returning the unit to clinical use — the BMS will map the new cell's discharge curve and boot cleanly from the second cycle onward.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge
On first installation, the Connex Spot's charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell. This causes the indicator to plateau below 100% before the cycle completes. The cell is not defective. Disconnect the charger, power the device on briefly to drop the voltage slightly, then reconnect — the charge IC re-evaluates the cell and typically reaches full charge on the second attempt. Target resting voltage after a full charge should read approximately 8.3–8.4V at the battery terminals.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Connex Spot shows a low battery alarm immediately after I installed a fully charged replacement — is the cell bad?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The Connex Spot's BMS compares incoming cell data against a stored OEM chemistry profile, and a new cell won't match that profile until it completes one full charge-discharge cycle. Run one complete cycle — charge to full, allow normal discharge during use, then recharge — and the alarm threshold calibrates to the new cell. If the alarm persists after two full cycles, check the resting voltage at the battery terminals; it should read 8.3V or above after a full charge.
The Connex Spot powers off unexpectedly mid-assessment, even though the battery indicator showed adequate charge — what's causing this?
During the first 10 cycles, a new Li-ion cell has higher internal resistance than a conditioned cell. The Connex Spot draws a sharp load spike during blood pressure cuff inflation and SpO2 sampling, and that spike causes a brief voltage sag on an unconditioned cell. The BMS interprets the sag as a low-cell-voltage event and shuts the device down to protect the cell. Run the battery through several full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use — internal resistance drops as the cell conditions, and the shutdowns stop.
The Connex Spot won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in storage for several months before installation — how do I recover it?
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage at roughly 2–3% per month. If the cell dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell (5.0V pack voltage) before installation, the BMS enters a deep-discharge protection lockout and blocks power-on entirely. Connect the device to its wall charger and leave it for a minimum of 30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charger applies a low-current pre-charge trickle that brings the pack voltage back above the BMS recovery threshold of around 6.0V, after which normal charging and boot will resume.
