Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Chameleon RF FL1400 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (21-36575-06)
This 7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the pack in the Symbol/Motorola RF FL1400 handheld barcode scanner. It covers OEM part numbers 21-36575-06, 21-38602-06, 21-40951-06, and 29-40951-06. The cell chemistry and BMS thresholds match what the FL1400's charging circuit expects.
- FL1400 platform fit: The FL1400 runs a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion architecture. All four OEM part numbers above share the same connector pinout and BMS communication protocol, so this pack slots into any FL1400 unit without a firmware mismatch.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge, scan-burst discharge, and cradle re-seat sequences. The BMS held cutoff voltage correctly and the dock recognised the pack without throwing a charging fault on any test unit.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before pulling it into a pick-and-pack shift. The scan trigger draws the highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum — starting the shift on a full cell prevents a false BMS trip during the first hour of scanning.
Cradle showing a charging error after fitting a new pack
The FL1400 cradle reads the battery through a set of spring-loaded dock contacts on the underside of the unit. A new pack sometimes ships with a light oxide layer on those contacts from storage. If the dock sees contact resistance above its threshold, it throws a charging error rather than attempting to charge. Wipe the gold contact pads on the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, reseat firmly, and the error clears in most cases. If the fault persists, check that the cradle's contact pins are not recessed — bent pins cause the same symptom.
Scanner drops wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The FL1400 pulls current for both the scan trigger and the wireless radio simultaneously during a fast scan sequence. When the cell voltage sags under that combined load, the radio subsystem is first to drop — the scanner stays on but the connection cuts out mid-burst. This is a voltage-sag issue, not a radio fault. Ensure the pack is above 7.0V before starting a high-frequency scanning session. If sag persists on a fully charged pack, the cradle contacts may be adding resistance and reducing available current — clean and reseat as above.

Frequently Asked Questions
My FL1400 won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — the laser fires but nothing scans
The laser or imager needs a minimum voltage to power the decode circuit reliably. If the new pack was shipped partially discharged, the cell voltage may be too low to sustain the imager even though the scanner appears to be on. Seat the unit in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before attempting to scan. Once the pack reads above 7.2V, the decode circuit will operate at full capacity.
The new battery seems to run out much faster than expected on a full shift — scan count is the same as before
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling both draw from the same cell simultaneously on the FL1400, and a new pack occasionally needs two or three full charge-discharge cycles before it reaches rated capacity. Run the pack through two complete cradle charge cycles and full discharge shifts before comparing endurance to the old battery. If capacity is still noticeably short after three cycles, check that the cradle contacts are clean — high contact resistance reduces charge acceptance and the pack never reaches a true full charge at 8.4V.
The scanner housing gets noticeably warm during a long shift — is that a battery issue
Sustained combined draw from the wireless radio and the scan trigger generates heat inside the FL1400's enclosed housing, and some of that heat comes from the battery under continuous load. A warm housing is normal during extended shifts; hot enough to be uncomfortable is not. If the unit is hot to the touch, check whether the scan trigger is being held continuously rather than fired in bursts — sustained trigger draw pushes cell temperature up faster than intermittent use. The BMS will cut off at its thermal limit, so let the unit cool for five minutes and reseat in the cradle to reset before continuing.
