Fits Cognex Dataman 8000, 8050, 8050E, 8050X scanners; replaces OEM part 124-1004R.
3.7V 2000mAh Li-ion cell delivers 7.4Wh for sustained barcode capture and wireless transmission during warehouse shifts.
Connector seats into the vertical slot on the scanner grip; locking tab engages from the top and locks flush against the housing.
We ran ten full charge cycles on a Dataman 8050 cradle — BMS accepted the cell on first dock insertion with no fault lights.
Install the battery in the cradle for one complete charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack operations to stabilize the BMS and prevent false trips on high-current scan bursts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Cognex Dataman 8000 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (124-1004R)

This 3.7V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Cognex Dataman 8000, 8050, 8050E, and 8050X handheld barcode scanners. It matches OEM part numbers 124-1004R, 124-10000R, DMA-HHBATTERY-01, and TEMP-NP100A. Same voltage, same form factor, same connector — the scanner sees no difference from the original.

  • Dataman 8000 series compatibility: The 8000, 8050, 8050E, and 8050X share the same battery bay geometry, 3.7V power rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full sub-family without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a Dataman 8050. The BMS accepted charge from the OEM cradle without fault codes, and the scanner powered through scan bursts without triggering undervoltage cutoff.
  • First-shift cradle charge: After installing a fresh pack, seat the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before use. The scan trigger draws the highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips during the first pick-and-pack shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

The Dataman cradle reads pack state through spring-loaded contact pins on the battery base. If those contacts carry oxidation or debris from the old pack, the dock interprets high contact resistance as a fault and throws a charging error — even on a brand-new cell. Wipe the contacts on both the battery and the cradle dock with a dry cloth, reseat firmly, and the error clears in most cases. If the error persists past two reseats, check cradle pin tension — a bent pin maintains poor contact regardless of pack condition.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

On the Dataman 8050 series, the imager trigger and the wireless radio fire simultaneously during fast barcode capture — combined inrush can pull voltage low enough that the radio drops its connection momentarily. This shows up as missed scan confirmations or a flickering link indicator during high-volume passes. A cell near end-of-life cannot hold voltage under that combined load and drops off faster. If connections drop during bursts but recover when scanning slows, the cell has degraded — swap the pack and confirm the radio stays linked through a full scan sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Dataman 8050 stopped reading barcodes right after I put in a new battery — what happened?

A freshly installed cell sitting at storage charge can sit below the voltage the imager needs to fire at full power. The scanner powers on but the imager output is weak, so reads fail or become intermittent. Seat the scanner in the cradle and run a full charge cycle before attempting scans. After a full charge, the imager draws cleanly and reads should return to normal.

The scanner feels warm after a long warehouse shift — is that a problem with this battery?

Sustained scanning plus active wireless polling in the Dataman's enclosed housing generates heat from both the cell and the radio module. Some warmth is normal, but if the housing is hot to the touch, the BMS may be working hard to compensate for a cell that is sagging under load. Check that the scanner vents are clear and that the pack reaches a full charge between shifts. If warmth increases shift over shift, measure resting voltage after charging — a healthy 3.7V Li-ion cell should read 4.1–4.2V fully charged.

This battery doesn't last as long as our old packs did in the first week — what's causing it?

New Li-ion cells often need two to three full charge and discharge cycles before they deliver rated capacity. Shallow cycling — pulling the pack off charge early or swapping before it is fully depleted — slows this break-in. Run the scanner until the low-battery indicator triggers, then seat it in the cradle for a complete charge cycle. Repeat that pattern for the first three shifts and capacity should reach 2000mAh.
