Fits Intermec CK3, CK3A, CK3X, and CK3R handheld scanners; replaces OEM part 318-034-001 and equivalent AB18, AB17 batteries.
3.7V Li-ion cell rated 4400mAh delivers 16.28Wh — enough capacity for full-shift inventory and asset tracking work in field conditions.
Single-pin connector seats into the battery slot on scanner base; locking tab engages flush when fully inserted and seated.
We bench-tested this pack on the CK3 platform; BMS accepted charge cycle without dock errors and held stable voltage under rapid trigger and wireless polling loads.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec CK3 / CK3A / CK3X / CK3R Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-034-001)

This is a 3.7V, 4400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Intermec CK3, CK3A, CK3X, and CK3R handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part numbers 318-034-001, 318-033-001, 318-033-021, AB17, and AB18. The CK3 series is used across warehouse pick-and-pack, retail stockroom, and asset-tracking environments where the scanner runs hard across full shifts.

  • CK3 platform compatibility: The CK3, CK3A, CK3X, and CK3R share the same battery bay geometry, contact pin layout, and BMS handshake protocol — all four models draw from the same 3.7V battery rail, so this pack covers the entire CK3 family without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack in a CK3R under combined Wi-Fi polling and scan trigger cycling. The BMS responded correctly at low-charge thresholds — no false cutoff on the first scan burst after installation, and charge acceptance from the dock was clean from the first cycle.
  • First-install cradle protocol: After fitting this pack, seat the scanner in its charging cradle and run a full charge cycle before taking it to the floor. The scan trigger draws its highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum — a pre-charged cell prevents a BMS protection trip on the first barcode scan of the shift.

Cradle charging error on a new CK3 battery pack

The CK3 charging cradle communicates with the battery BMS through spring-loaded dock contacts. If those contacts carry oxidation or debris, the dock reads a handshake fault and flags a charging error even though the pack itself is fine. This is more common with aftermarket packs that sit in packaging before installation. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the dock with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and check that all four contact pins are fully engaged — the error clears in most cases within 30 seconds of a clean connection.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The CK3 runs its 802.11 radio and imager from the same battery rail. During a rapid scan burst — multiple triggers in quick succession — the combined inrush from the imager and the radio transmit pulse can cause a momentary voltage sag. If the cell is already below roughly 3.5V, the BMS may briefly throttle output, and the radio drops its access point association before reconnecting. A fully charged pack keeps the rail stable above that sag threshold. If dropouts persist with a charged pack, check that the Wi-Fi channel is not congested — reduced retransmit load lowers the radio's current draw during scan sequences.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CK3 scanner won't read barcodes right after I fitted the new battery — what's wrong?

The CK3 imager needs a minimum rail voltage to fire reliably, and a fresh-out-of-packaging replacement battery often ships at a partial state of charge. At low cell voltage, the imager powers on but doesn't hit the output level needed for a clean decode. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge the pack fully before your first scan. Once the cell is above 3.7V, the imager output returns to normal and barcodes read without issue.

The CK3 feels warm after a long scanning shift — is the battery causing that?

Heat on the CK3 after an extended shift is almost always a normal result of sustained combined load — the imager fires repeatedly, the Wi-Fi radio polls continuously, and both draw from the same cell in an enclosed plastic housing with limited airflow. The battery itself generates some heat during discharge under that combined draw. If the housing is hot to the touch rather than just warm, check that the scanner's radio duty cycle isn't set to maximum polling — reducing the beacon interval lowers the continuous RF draw and keeps operating temperature in the normal range.

The new battery is holding less charge than expected after only a few weeks of use — what causes that?

Li-ion cells in high-scan-frequency environments degrade faster when they spend most of each shift cycling between 20% and 80% without completing full charge cycles in the dock. The CK3 is often pulled from the cradle before it reaches 100%, which compounds shallow-cycle wear over weeks. Return the scanner to the dock at every break and let it reach a full charge — the BMS balances the cells properly only at top-of-charge, and skipping that step accelerates capacity fade. Check that the dock LED shows a solid green (full charge) before pulling the scanner for the next shift.
