Fits Intermec CK70 and CK71 mobile computers, replacing OEM part numbers 318-046-001, 318-046-011, 1001AB01, 1001AB02, and AB18.
This 3.7V 5200mAh Li-ion cell delivers 19.24Wh to sustain barcode capture and wireless transmission across full inventory shifts.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation is fixed to prevent misinstallation on the CK70 dock.
We bench-tested the cell at full scan trigger load plus concurrent radio polling; the BMS accepted the current demand without early cutoff events.
After installing this pack, place the scanner in its cradle for one full charge cycle before field use to prevent false BMS trips during peak scan burst inrush.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec CK70 / CK71 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-046-001)

This 3.7V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Intermec CK70 and CK71 rugged mobile computers. Both handhelds are used for barcode scanning and data collection in warehouse and retail environments. It also cross-references OEM part numbers 318-046-011, 1001AB01, 1001AB02, and AB18.

  • CK70 and CK71 compatibility: Both models run the same 3.7V battery rail, share the same connector footprint, and use the same BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers both devices without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through scan-trigger inrush events and sustained wireless polling loads. The BMS held voltage without false cutoff under combined radio and imager draw.
  • First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum charge, and starting from a full cell prevents false BMS trips on the first use.

Cradle showing charging error on a fresh pack

A new Li-ion pack resting at storage voltage can confuse the CK70 cradle's charge controller, which expects a handshake above a minimum threshold before starting the charge cycle. The dock may flag an error or sit idle rather than charge. Clean the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle slot with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack firmly. If the error clears within 30 seconds, the cell voltage was within range and charging will proceed normally toward 4.2V per cell.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The CK70 pulls from the battery for both the imager and the 802.11 radio simultaneously during a fast scan sequence. If the cell is aged or only partially charged, combined inrush from both loads can sag pack voltage enough to trip the radio stack offline. The scanner may appear functional but drops its network session mid-burst. Charge the pack fully before a high-volume shift, and confirm resting voltage sits at or above 3.7V before seating the device in a picker's holster.

Frequently Asked Questions

My CK70 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I put the new battery in — what's wrong?

The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire the laser or LED array — if the replacement pack shipped at storage charge (around 3.5V), the CK70 may power on but the imager draw pushes voltage below the read threshold. Place the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before attempting scans. Once the pack reaches 4.2V, the imager fires at full power and reads should return to normal.

The CK71 gets noticeably warm after a few hours of continuous scanning — is that a battery issue?

Sustained back-to-back scanning plus constant 802.11 polling generates steady combined current draw through the pack and the housing with limited airflow. A Li-ion cell dissipates heat at higher discharge rates, and the CK71's enclosed grip concentrates that warmth. This is normal under heavy load as long as the scanner doesn't shut down — thermal protection in the BMS will cut the pack before damage occurs. If the device is hot to the point of discomfort, reduce scan burst frequency or rotate to a second pack mid-shift.

The new battery seems to run out faster on long shifts than our old original pack did — what's causing that?

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval both directly affect how fast the cell depletes — a picker running continuous rapid scans on a busy pick face draws far more current than spot checks throughout the day. Also check that the CK70's Wi-Fi signal is strong at the scanner's location; a weak signal forces the radio to transmit at higher power, adding to draw. Confirm the replacement pack capacity is 5200mAh and that it completed at least one full charge cycle in the cradle before use. A pack used before it has fully charged from storage will show shorter endurance until the first full cycle is complete.
