Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon OPL-9714 / OPL-9815 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (N10-1000MA)
This is a 3.7V, 1000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Opticon OPL-9714 barcode scanner and related models. It fits the OPL-9715, OPL-9815, and OPL-9727 alongside additional compatible units in the same family. Capacity figures come directly from product data — 3.7Wh, matching the original specification.
- OPL-9714 / OPL-9815 family fit: These models share the same 3.7V power rail, physical cell footprint (53.17 × 35.35 × 6.84mm), and connector pinout. The BMS handshake is consistent across the range, so one cell covers the full group without adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through scan-trigger and wireless polling loads simultaneously. The BMS held charge acceptance cleanly across repeated inrush events without tripping into protection mode.
- First-shift charging protocol: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before picking up any scan work. Scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips on your first shift.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
Most cradle charging errors after a battery swap come down to contact resistance between the dock pins and the battery terminals, not a fault in the cell itself. Oxidation or debris on the gold-plated contacts is enough to push resistance above the threshold the dock uses to confirm a valid pack. Wipe the battery contacts and dock pins with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner with firm, even pressure. If the error clears within 30 seconds of reseating, contact resistance was the cause — not the battery.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During a fast scan burst, the imager and the wireless radio draw current at the same time, creating a combined inrush spike the BMS must absorb simultaneously. If the cell voltage dips below roughly 3.2V under that combined load, the BMS may briefly throttle output to protect the cell — the radio drops first because it is the lower-priority draw. Let the battery charge to full before a high-volume pick shift. If dropouts continue on a fully charged pack, check that the scanner firmware has not flagged the cell as low-capacity, which some Opticon models do after detecting multiple partial cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions
My OPL-9714 won't read barcodes at all after swapping in the new battery — laser powers on but no decode. What's wrong?
The imager needs a stable voltage above a minimum threshold to drive the decode processor — if the new cell shipped partially discharged, the scanner may power on but fail to complete a decode cycle. This is not a scanner fault. Seat the unit in the cradle and charge fully before the first use. Once the cell hits full charge, the imager drive current stabilises and decoding should resume normally.
The scanner feels noticeably warm after a few hours of continuous scanning — is that a battery issue?
Sustained warmth during extended shifts is normal for a compact Li-ion cell in an enclosed housing when the scan trigger and wireless radio run together continuously. The OPL-9714 shell has limited thermal mass, so heat builds faster than on larger devices. If the housing becomes hot rather than warm, or the scanner shuts down mid-shift, check that the battery contacts are clean and fully seated — poor contact forces higher resistance, which adds heat at the connection point. A clean, fully seated pack with good contact should stay warm but not hot across a full shift.
The new battery seems to drain faster than expected on high-scan-frequency shifts compared to light use — is the cell faulty?
It is not faulty. Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval both multiply current draw — a shift with continuous rapid scanning and an active Bluetooth or 802.11 connection draws significantly more from a 1000mAh cell than occasional, spread-out scans. The OPL-9714's original specification targets typical mixed-use patterns, not sustained full-throughput operation. To extend endurance on heavy shifts, reduce the wireless polling interval in the scanner settings if your WMS allows it, or keep a charged spare rotating through the cradle.
