This is a 2.4V, 600mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the BTI Verve 450 cordless phone handset. It fits the Verve 450, Verve 450 SMS, Verve 450 black, and Verve 450 red, along with twelve additional variants in the same handset family. When the original pack stops holding a charge, this unit restores the handset to full operation.

  • Verve 450 handset family fit: All Verve 450 variants share the same 2.4V cell configuration, connector pinout, and physical footprint. One pack covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a Verve 450 base station. The BMS accepted charge within the base's voltage window on the first cycle and flagged charge completion correctly on the handset indicator.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base for a continuous 16-hour charge before first use. Ni-MH cells in cordless phones ship in a partially discharged state. Skipping the slow initial charge leaves the cells below rated capacity and the shortfall compounds over early cycles.

Talk time shorter than the original battery after replacement

Ni-MH cells don't reach full rated capacity on the first charge cycle — this is normal chemistry, not a faulty unit. Capacity builds across three to five full charge and discharge cycles as the cell plates condition. If talk time is still noticeably short after five cycles, check that the handset is making clean contact with the base charging pins. Dirty or bent pins drop charge current and the pack never reaches a full state of charge, which the handset reads as low capacity.

Base station shows no charge light or error indicator after battery swap

Ni-MH batteries discharge slowly during storage. If the pack voltage drops far enough, the Verve 450 base station won't recognise it as a valid battery and withholds charging current — the charge indicator stays off or shows an error. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly. If the base still won't accept the pack, try a different power outlet to rule out a low-voltage supply issue. Once the base begins charging, leave the handset undisturbed for the full 16-hour initial cycle so the pack rises above the base's acceptance threshold and stays there.

My Verve 450 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery cuts all power to the handset's memory, and some DECT cordless phones drop their base registration when power is fully lost. Re-register the handset using the pairing or registration button on the base station — on the Verve 450 this is usually a small button on the rear of the base. Hold it until the base indicator flashes, then trigger the handset registration from the handset menu. Once paired, place the handset in the base and run the full 16-hour first charge before using it.

The Verve 450 handset drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — what's causing that?

This is a seating issue, not a faulty battery. The Verve 450 base delivers charge current only when the handset's charge contacts press firmly against the base pins. If the handset is slightly forward or tilted, the circuit stays open and standby draw drains the pack through the night. Remove and reseat the handset, check that the base pins are clean and upright, and confirm the charge indicator lights on the handset. If the indicator doesn't appear within 30 seconds of seating, clean the contacts with a dry cloth and try again.

The Verve 450's range dropped noticeably after I put the new battery in — is that the battery?

Yes, this is a known Ni-MH behaviour in DECT handsets. When the pack is below full charge, the transmit circuit can't sustain the voltage needed to drive the RF module at full power during transmission. The radio backs off power output to compensate, which cuts range. Run three to five complete charge and discharge cycles to condition the cells to rated capacity. After conditioning, charge the handset fully — confirmed by a steady charge-complete indicator — before testing range again.
