Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Commodore 250 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Commodore 250 cordless phone handset. It powers the handset during calls and standby. Swap it in when your handset no longer holds a useful charge or needs charging multiple times a day.

  • Commodore 250 handset fit: The 250 handset uses a compact 3.6V Ni-MH cell pack at this exact form factor — 52.99 x 44.48 x 15.15mm. The voltage rail and connector position match the original. No modification required.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a DECT phone test rig. The BMS accepted charge without error flags, and voltage held stable under simulated RF transmit load through the first three cycles.
  • First-charge conditioning for Ni-MH handsets: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cordless phone batteries reach rated capacity only after a slow initial charge — skipping this shortchanges every cycle that follows.

Base station showing no charge light on a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH batteries lose voltage during storage. If the pack arrives below roughly 3.0V, some base stations won't initiate a charge cycle — they read the voltage as out of range and do nothing. This isn't a fault in the base or the battery. The fix is to briefly charge the pack using a standalone Ni-MH charger to bring it above the acceptance threshold, then return it to the base. Once the pack reaches around 3.3V, the base will recognise it and take over charging normally.

Talk time still short after three or four charges

Ni-MH cells don't deliver rated capacity straight out of the box — they need conditioning cycles to reach full charge acceptance. If talk time feels short after the first few charges, that's expected behaviour, not a defective battery. Run three to five full charge-and-use cycles with the handset seated in the base between calls. By cycle five, capacity should stabilise near the rated 1200mAh and talk time will reflect that.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Commodore 250 handset is draining flat overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is this the new battery?

This usually points to the handset not making proper contact with the base charging pins, not a fault in the battery itself. Check that the handset clicks fully into the cradle and that the charging contacts on both the handset and base are clean — oxidised contacts break the charge circuit. Wipe both sets of contacts with a dry cloth and reseat the handset. If the drain stops, the contacts were the issue; if it continues, check the base power adapter is delivering voltage to the cradle.

The Commodore 250 handset lost its pairing with the base after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

Some DECT phones drop their pairing data when power is fully removed from the handset, which happens during a battery swap. This is a firmware behaviour in the handset, not a battery fault. To re-pair, press and hold the registration button on the base until the indicator flashes, then follow the pairing sequence in the handset menu — usually found under Settings > Register Handset. The process takes under two minutes and restores full function.

The Commodore 250 range feels shorter near the edges of the house since I put in the new battery — what's causing that?

NiMH voltage sags under RF transmit load, and a battery that hasn't been through conditioning cycles yet sags more than a fully broken-in pack. Reduced range at the fringe of coverage is a direct symptom of that voltage drop during transmission. Run the handset through three to five full charge-and-use cycles before judging range — transmit power stabilises as the pack reaches full charge acceptance. If range is still reduced after five cycles, check that the battery contacts inside the handset are clean and making firm contact with the cell terminals.
