Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sharp CL905 / CL960ID / CL980ID Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Sharp cordless phone handsets. It fits the CL905, CL9601D, CL960ID, and CL980ID models. Dimensions are 53.60 x 42.45 x 15.32mm — verify your original battery matches before ordering.

  • CL905 / CL960ID / CL980ID series fit: These handsets share the same 3.6V single-cell Ni-MH pack format, connector orientation, and charging circuit. The base station delivers a trickle charge matched to this cell count — swapping to a different voltage will confuse the charge controller.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Ni-MH compatible analyser. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low-voltage thresholds, and the pack accepted charge from a 3.6V trickle base station without tripping the protection circuit.
  • First charge on new Ni-MH handset packs: Place the handset in the base immediately after installing and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells in cordless phones ship partially discharged — a slow initial charge allows the cells to balance and reach rated capacity.

Talk time shorter than expected after the first few charges

Ni-MH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on the first one or two cycles. The chemistry needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the cells reach their rated 2000mAh. Do not judge the pack after day one. Run the handset until it drops, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat — capacity climbs each cycle until it stabilises.

Base station charge light not activating with new pack installed

Ni-MH packs stored before sale self-discharge over time. If the resting voltage drops far enough, some Sharp base stations will not recognise the pack as chargeable and the charge indicator stays off. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it firmly — a brief contact break can trigger the charging circuit to re-poll. If the light still does not come on, check that the handset contacts are clean and the pack voltage reads at least 3.0V with a multimeter before assuming a fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Sharp CL905 handset shows a full charge on the base but the talk time is still much shorter than the original battery — what is happening?

New Ni-MH packs need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the cells reach rated capacity. The base station's charge indicator reflects charge completion, not cell capacity — a freshly installed pack can show fully charged while still delivering well under 2000mAh. Run the handset until the low-battery alert sounds, return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge, and repeat. By cycle four or five the capacity will stabilise at the rated level.

The handset range dropped noticeably after I put the new battery in — it cuts out closer to the base than the old one did.

Range reduction on DECT handsets is almost always a voltage sag issue under RF load. When the Ni-MH pack is not yet conditioned, its internal resistance is higher and the voltage dips during transmit bursts — the RF circuit pulls back power to compensate. This is the same conditioning problem as short talk time: run three to five full cycles and the cell resistance drops as the chemistry activates. If range is still poor after five cycles, check that the handset is fully seating in the base so the pack reaches a full charge each session.

The Sharp handset lost its pairing with the base station after I swapped the battery — it rings on the base but the handset shows no signal.

Some DECT phones store pairing data in volatile memory that clears when the battery is fully removed. Repairing is straightforward: place the handset in the base, locate the registration or page button on the base unit, and hold it for five to ten seconds until the handset displays a pairing or registration prompt. Confirm on the handset. Check your CL905 / CL960ID manual for the exact button label — Sharp labels this button differently across the series.
