Fits TCM cordless phone models 68143 and CP731, replacing OEM battery reference 3.6V Ni-MH.
3.6V, 700mAh capacity delivers full talk time on original DECT handsets; voltage matches base station acceptance threshold.
Battery connector slides straight into handset slot with no locking tab; orientation marked on housing.
We bench tested the cell on a TCM base simulator — BMS voltage stable at 3.6V under standby draw, no early cutoff.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TCM 68143 / CP731 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for TCM cordless phone models 68143 and CP731. It fits the handset directly, restoring power to the unit when the original cell no longer holds charge. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • 68143 and CP731 compatibility: Both handsets run the same 3.6V single-cell NiMH pack with an identical footprint — 44.74 × 20.77 × 10.50mm. The connector orientation and BMS handshake requirements are the same across both models, so one cell covers the pair.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a NiMH-compatible test rig. The BMS accepted charge current without trip events, and cell voltage held stable across the full discharge curve down to the 1.0V per-cell cutoff.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH handsets: After installing the new battery, seat the handset in the base station and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells ship in a partially discharged state — a slow initial charge is required to bring all cells to rated capacity and establish consistent cycles going forward.

Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement

New NiMH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle — this is normal chemistry behaviour, not a fault. The cell needs three to five full charge-and-use cycles before the electrolyte fully activates and capacity reaches 700mAh. Each cycle, talk time will increase noticeably. Run the handset until it prompts a low-battery warning, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat. By cycle five, capacity should be at or near the rated figure.

Base station not charging after inserting a new NiMH pack

TCM base stations check incoming cell voltage before enabling the charge circuit. A NiMH pack that has sat in storage can drop low enough that the base reads it as a fault condition rather than a dischargeable cell. If the charge indicator stays off or shows an error, remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and re-seat it firmly — this resets the detection cycle. If the base still does not respond, check that the cell voltage is above 3.0V with a multimeter before concluding the base or battery has a fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TCM 68143 handset loses range quickly after the battery swap — is the new cell faulty?

Range drop is almost always a voltage issue, not a faulty cell. NiMH voltage sags under the RF transmit load before the cell is fully conditioned. The handset's transmit power relies on stable voltage from the pack — if the cell is fresh out of packaging and unconditioned, voltage dips under RF draw and the signal weakens. Run three to five full charge cycles and the sag will reduce as internal resistance drops.

My TCM cordless handset lost its pairing with the base station after I replaced the battery — how do I get it back?

Removing the battery completely cuts power to the handset's memory, and some DECT phones drop their pairing data when power is fully lost. This is a known behaviour on several TCM models, not a battery fault. Re-register the handset using the pairing button on the base station — hold it until the base indicator flashes, then follow the handset's on-screen pairing prompt.

The TCM 68143 battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?

A fully seated handset in the base should draw trickle charge, not drain. If it's draining overnight, the handset contacts or base cradle contacts are likely dirty or misaligned, so the base isn't detecting the handset and charge current never flows. Clean the gold contact pins on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, re-seat the handset, and confirm the charge indicator light activates within 30 seconds of seating.
