Fits Akerstroms 200J and MC98 transmitters, replaces OEM part 940684-000E.
2.4V, 2000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers 4.8Wh to sustain continuous wireless control on crane remotes without mid-cycle dropout.
Four-pin connector seats flush into the battery compartment with vertical orientation; locking tab engages on full seating.
We bench-tested this cell across five charge cycles; BMS accepted the pack on first insertion and held stable voltage under solenoid load spikes.
On first install, charge for 24 hours before putting the remote into service — Ni-MH cells shipped at storage voltage need full saturation before high-current solenoid activation.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Akerstroms 200J / MC98 Transmitters — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (940684-000E)

This is a 2.4V, 2000mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for Akerstroms 200J and MC98 wireless transmitters used in crane and industrial hoist operations. It replaces OEM part numbers 940684-000E, 940684-000, and 170.2151. Swap it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or refuses to charge at all.

  • 200J and MC98 transmitter fit: Both transmitter models run the same 2.4V two-cell Ni-MH pack with the same connector footprint and BMS handshake requirements. One battery covers both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and load discharge on a 200J transmitter frame. The BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, and voltage held stable through repeated solenoid activation sequences.
  • Monthly charge during idle periods: Crane remotes often sit unused between jobs. Ni-MH cells left uncharged for extended periods self-discharge below recoverable voltage — charge this pack at least once a month during storage to keep the cells above 1.0V per cell.

Solenoid activation causing power dropout on a freshly installed battery

When a crane remote triggers a solenoid or relay, the inrush current spike can briefly exceed what a partially charged or degraded cell can deliver. The BMS interprets this as an unsafe draw event and cuts power to protect the pack. This looks identical to a dead battery but the transmitter will often recover seconds later. Ensure the replacement pack is fully charged before the first use — a cell at storage voltage (roughly 2.2V for a two-cell Ni-MH) does not have the headroom to absorb that inrush peak without tripping the BMS.

Transmitter shows low-battery indicator immediately after installing a new cell

New Ni-MH packs ship at partial storage voltage, not at full charge. The transmitter's voltage monitor reads the resting cell voltage on first boot and flags it as low — this is expected behaviour, not a faulty battery. Connect the pack to the Akerstroms charger before putting the transmitter into service. A full charge cycle brings the pack to approximately 2.8–2.9V resting, which clears the low-battery flag and ensures the transmitter operates within its rated voltage window.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Akerstroms 200J transmitter won't power on after sitting unused for a few months — could the new battery already be dead?

Probably not dead, but likely in deep-discharge lockout. Ni-MH cells that have self-discharged below roughly 1.0V per cell can appear completely dead — the transmitter won't boot and the charger may show no activity at first. Connect the pack to the charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before assuming the cell is faulty; most Ni-MH packs recover once the charger trickle-feeds them back above the minimum threshold voltage.

The crane remote cuts out for a second every time it triggers the hoist relay, then comes back on — what's happening?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the relay's inrush current spike. At the moment of relay activation, current demand jumps sharply, and if the battery is below full charge the BMS shuts output to protect the cell, then resets within seconds. Charge the pack fully before use — a resting voltage of 2.8V or above gives the cell enough headroom to absorb the inrush without the BMS cutting in.

E-stop response on my MC98 feels slower than it should — could the battery be the cause?

Yes — E-stop response time is directly tied to transmitter output voltage. A Ni-MH pack that has partially discharged or capacity-faded through repeated shallow cycles can't sustain the voltage needed for full RF output power, which increases the time between button press and signal receipt at the receiver. Charge the pack to full and retest; if response is still sluggish, the cell has likely capacity-faded and should be replaced.
