Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

ORBIK B164/24 2X4 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 2.4V, 8000mAh Ni-MH replacement cell for the ORBIK B164/24 2X4 emergency lighting unit. It restores backup illumination function when the original cell has aged past its useful capacity. Dimensions are 121.10 × 33.65 × 33.00mm — confirm these against your fitting before ordering.

  • ORBIK B164/24 2X4 compatibility: The B164/24 2X4 runs a 2.4V charge rail with a trickle-maintenance controller. This cell matches that voltage window and physical format so the charge circuit operates within its intended float range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a simulated mains-fail activation. The BMS accepted charge without thermal event, and load voltage held above the controller's low-voltage cutoff threshold for the rated duration test window.
  • First installation test cycle: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity and confirms the cell accepts load before your next scheduled compliance inspection.

Charge indicator staying red after fitting the new cell

A prolonged storage period can leave the cell voltage sitting outside the charge controller's float acceptance window. The controller reads that as a fault condition and holds the red LED rather than switching to green. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 24-hour conditioning charge. Once the cell climbs into the controller's acceptance band — typically above 2.2V under float — the indicator should transition to green normally.

Emergency light dims partway through a duration test after replacement

A cell replaced without a prior full conditioning charge will not deliver its rated 8000mAh on the first activation. The controller has not yet completed a full charge cycle, so usable capacity is lower than the cell's true rating. This is not a fault with the cell itself — it resolves after one complete 24-hour charge followed by a fresh test. Run a second full duration test after that charge cycle to confirm the fitting meets its compliance requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

The charge LED on my ORBIK B164/24 2X4 is still red three days after fitting the new battery — what's wrong?

A new cell shipped from storage often arrives at a low resting voltage that falls outside the charge controller's float acceptance window, which keeps the fault LED active. Leave the fitting connected to mains for a full 24-hour charge without interruption. If the cell voltage climbs past 2.2V under float load, the controller will recognise the cell and switch the indicator to green. If the LED stays red beyond 48 hours of uninterrupted mains charge, check the charge board contacts for corrosion before assuming the cell is faulty.

My emergency light passed installation but failed its six-month duration test — could the new battery be the cause?

A single shallow activation cycle in the first weeks after fitting is usually the cause. Ni-MH cells in standby fittings need at least one full discharge-to-rated-cutoff cycle to reach stated capacity — a brief lamp-on test immediately after installation does not count. Run a full manual duration test, then allow a complete 24-hour recharge, and retest. If the second full test passes, the cell is fine and the original failure was a conditioning gap, not a cell defect.

The fitting shows a fault LED even though I've confirmed the new battery is seated correctly and making contact — how do I clear it?

Some ORBIK fittings latch the fault LED in firmware after a deep-discharge event and do not reset automatically when a new cell is installed. Power the fitting down by isolating the mains supply for 30 seconds, then restore power. This clears the latched fault register on most B164-series controllers. If the fault LED returns within the first hour of mains-restored charging, measure the cell terminal voltage — it should read above 2.0V within 15 minutes of charge to confirm the charge circuit is active.
