Fits Garmin eTrex GPS-GAR3200 handheld navigator; replaces OEM battery PW029123.
3.7V 1000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers full capacity for extended field navigation without mid-route shutdown.
Connector slides into battery slot with flat contact orientation; locking tab engages on insertion and holds firm.
Bench testing shows BMS accepts charge at standard lithium profile; no pre-conditioning cycle needed on first use.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigating — cold start after power removal takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute for warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BTI GPS-GAR3200 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (PW029123)

This BTI battery is a 3.7V, 1000mAh Li-ion cell that fits the Garmin eTrex GPS-GAR3200 series handheld GPS navigator. It replaces the original internal cell when capacity has dropped to the point where the unit shuts off mid-session. Dimensions are 50.30 × 36.17 × 5.60 mm — confirm your original cell matches before fitting.

  • GPS-GAR3200 series fit: These Garmin eTrex units share the same single-cell 3.7V architecture and connector pinout. The BMS on this cell communicates charge status to the device without triggering false low-battery warnings at full charge.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the GPS-GAR3200 platform. The BMS held the cutoff threshold correctly and the device reported charge level accurately through the full cycle.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before relying on it. A full power interruption forces a cold start — first fix can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS-GAR3200 shutting off without low-battery warning

This happens when the device's voltage-threshold indicator is uncalibrated against the new cell. The GPS reads the battery indicator as showing charge remaining, but the actual cell voltage hits the BMS cutoff and the unit drops power. The fix is to run two or three full charge and discharge cycles after fitting the new cell. This lets the device recalibrate its voltage curve so the on-screen indicator matches the real charge state.

Saved routes and POIs missing after battery replacement

Some Garmin eTrex models store route and POI data in battery-backed RAM. A complete power interruption — which happens any time the cell is removed — can wipe that volatile memory. Waypoints saved to internal flash or an SD card survive the swap; only RAM-resident data is at risk. Before removing the old cell, export your routes via Garmin BaseCamp or save them to the device's SD card to avoid losing them.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GPS-GAR3200 is taking forever to find satellites after I put in the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery cuts power completely, which forces the GPS into a cold start — the unit has lost its cached almanac and ephemeris data. First fix after a cold start typically takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the almanac is rebuilt and stored, subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute.

The GPS-GAR3200 shows battery remaining but then cuts off without warning — why?

The device's voltage indicator is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, not the new one. When the new cell's actual voltage drops to the BMS cutoff threshold, the unit loses power before the on-screen indicator has caught up. Run two to three full charge and discharge cycles after fitting the replacement. By the third cycle, the device recalibrates its curve and the indicator will reflect the real charge level accurately.

Active navigation drains this battery noticeably faster than just leaving the GPS on standby — is the cell faulty?

The cell is not faulty — this is normal for the GPS-GAR3200 platform. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously alongside the backlit display, which together draw significantly more current than standby mode. Reduce display brightness to its lowest usable setting during navigation; the GPS receiver draw is fixed, but the display is the largest variable load you can control. At maximum brightness with the receiver active, current draw can be several times higher than in standby.
