Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MLS Destinator Talk&Drive 35SL — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 3.7V 1000mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the MLS Destinator Talk&Drive 35SL and Talk&Drive 35SL A portable GPS navigators. It fits the internal battery bay directly and restores both navigation and hands-free calling functions. Dimensions are 52.96 × 33.64 × 5.15mm — measure your original before fitting if you are unsure.
- Talk&Drive 35SL and 35SL A compatibility: Both variants share the same battery bay dimensions and 3.7V supply rail. The connector orientation and cell footprint are identical across the two, so one cell covers both units without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a 3.7V Li-ion platform matching the Talk&Drive draw profile. The protection circuit responded correctly to cutoff at low voltage and did not trip under normal GPS receiver and display load.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell and powering the unit on for the first time, take the GPS outdoors and leave it running until it acquires a satellite fix. The unit performs a full cold start after any complete power interruption — first fix can take 5–10 minutes outdoors. Subsequent warm starts return to under a minute.
GPS accuracy reduced as battery charge drops on the Talk&Drive 35SL
At low battery, some portable GPS units step down receiver sensitivity to reduce current draw and extend the remaining charge. On the Talk&Drive 35SL, this can show up as position drift or a wider accuracy circle on the map before the low-battery warning appears. The effect is more noticeable on routes with dense building cover where signal is already marginal. Keeping the unit charged above 20% — roughly 3.6V under load — avoids the sensitivity reduction threshold.
Talk&Drive 35SL shuts off without a low-battery warning
The battery indicator on the Talk&Drive 35SL reads from a voltage curve calibrated to the original cell. After a battery swap, the fuel gauge curve is out of sync with the new cell until a full charge-discharge cycle re-calibrates it. This means the device can hit its hardware voltage cutoff — around 3.0V — while the on-screen indicator still shows one bar. Run one complete charge to full and use the unit until it shuts off naturally, then recharge fully to reset the calibration.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Talk&Drive 35SL lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?
Yes. The Talk&Drive 35SL stores some route and POI data in RAM that depends on continuous battery power to hold its state. A full power removal — which happens during a battery swap — wipes that volatile memory. Data saved to the internal flash or an SD card survives the swap; anything held only in active RAM does not. Re-enter your saved routes after fitting the new cell, or back them up to an SD card before swapping.
The Talk&Drive 35SL is taking much longer than usual to find satellites after the battery replacement — what's happening?
This is a cold start, and it is expected after any complete power interruption. The GPS receiver loses its last-known position, time, and satellite almanac data when power is fully removed. Without that data, the receiver has to scan the full satellite set from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Subsequent power cycles use a warm start and lock in under a minute — the long delay only happens once after the swap.
The Talk&Drive 35SL drains much faster when I'm actively navigating compared to just sitting on the dash — why?
Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, map rendering, and display simultaneously, which draws significantly more current than standby. The display at full brightness is the largest single load — reducing screen brightness one or two steps cuts draw noticeably without affecting readability in a car. The GPS receiver itself adds a steady base load that does not drop during navigation. If the drain still seems excessive, confirm the display auto-dim setting is active so brightness drops when the unit is idle between turns.
