GreenWorks Pro 80V Series — 80V Li-ion Replacement Battery (2901302)

This is an 80V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 4000mAh (320Wh) for the GreenWorks Pro 80V platform. It fits the GCS80420 chainsaw, GBL80320 blower, GLM801600 lawn mower, and 56 additional Pro 80V tools sharing the same battery bay. Voltage and connector match the original GreenWorks 80V pack specification.

  • Pro 80V platform compatibility: All listed models run the same 80V voltage rail and use the same slide-in battery interface with a common BMS handshake signal. One battery services the full tool fleet without any adapters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a Pro 80V mower deck under simulated blade load. The BMS held through normal motor inrush, stepped current limiting correctly under sustained draw, and the charger accepted the pack through a full charge cycle without fault codes.
  • Seasonal storage tip: Before the first mow of spring, bring the battery indoors overnight if temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance, and the blade motor inrush current on a cold pack can trip the BMS before the mower takes a single pass.

BMS cutoff on thick-grass or wet-grass blade load

The Pro 80V BMS monitors cell current in real time. When the blade motor hits dense or wet grass, inrush current spikes sharply and can cross the BMS overcurrent threshold within milliseconds. The pack shuts down as a protective response — not a battery fault. Clearing thicker sections in two passes instead of one keeps the current draw below the trip point and prevents mid-run cutoffs.

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly during storage. After several months in a cold garage, cell voltage can drop below the minimum acceptance threshold the charger checks before it begins a charge cycle. The charger reads this as a fault rather than a depleted pack. Place the battery in a room-temperature environment for two hours, then reconnect to the charger — most packs recover and the charger clears to green once cell temperature and open-circuit voltage return above 60V.

My GreenWorks 80V mower cuts out halfway through a row, then starts again after a minute — what's causing that?

That's thermal protection activating, not a dead battery. The blade motor generates heat under sustained load, and the BMS cuts power once the pack hits its thermal ceiling to prevent cell damage. It resets automatically once temperature drops. Allow a 5-minute cooldown in shade before restarting, and avoid mowing in the hottest part of the day if it keeps triggering.

This new battery runs noticeably warmer than my old one during the first few charges — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. New Li-ion cells run warmer than a conditioned pack during the first several charge and discharge cycles because the electrodes are still forming stable charge pathways. We measured elevated surface temperature on this pack for the first five cycles, after which it settled to normal operating range. Run it through five full use-and-charge cycles before drawing conclusions about heat behaviour.

The mower feels sluggish and loses power on the first cold morning of spring even with a fully charged battery — why?

Li-ion cells lose usable capacity below 10°C because cold temperatures increase internal resistance and restrict current delivery to the motor. The battery isn't faulty — it's a chemistry response to low temperature. Store the pack indoors the night before a cold-morning mow and reconnect it to the tool just before use. A pack that starts at room temperature will deliver full motor torque from the first blade contact.
