Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GreenWorks Pro 80V Series — 80V Li-ion Replacement Battery (2901302)
This is an 80V Li-ion replacement battery rated at 2000mAh (160Wh). It fits the GreenWorks Pro 80V platform, covering mowers, blowers, and string trimmers including the GCS80420, GBL80320, and GLM801600 among 56 additional compatible models. Voltage and connector match the OEM pack — the BMS handshake is compatible with GreenWorks Pro 80V chargers.
- Pro 80V platform fit: All models in the GreenWorks Pro 80V line share the same 80V rail, battery connector, and BMS communication protocol. One battery moves between mower, blower, and trimmer without adapter or modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack on a GCS80420 deck motor through simulated blade-load cycles. The BMS held stable under inrush current at startup and throttled correctly when cell temperature approached the thermal threshold — no nuisance trips on clean dry grass loads.
- Seasonal storage tip: Before the first spring mow, bring the battery indoors overnight if garage temperatures are below 10°C. Cold Li-ion cells have elevated internal resistance, and the blade motor's inrush current can trip the BMS on a pack that hasn't warmed to room temperature.
BMS cutoff on thick-grass and wet-grass blade load
The Pro 80V blade motor draws significantly higher inrush current when cutting dense or wet grass compared to dry conditions. If the BMS detects that current draw exceeds its threshold — typically caused by a clogged deck or overgrown patch — it cuts output to protect the cells. This is not a battery fault; it's the protection circuit doing its job. Clear the deck, allow a 60-second reset, then restart the mower at a slower walking pace through the heavy section.
Charger showing fault light after mower sat in garage all winter
Li-ion cells self-discharge over months of storage. If the pack voltage drops below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell — the charger refuses to enter normal charge mode and shows a fault or red indicator. Some GreenWorks Pro 80V chargers include a recovery mode: insert the pack, wait up to 30 minutes, and the charger will attempt a low-current pre-charge to bring cells back above the acceptance floor. If the fault light clears and charging begins, the pack is recovering normally. If it does not clear after 30 minutes, cell voltage has dropped too far for recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
My GreenWorks Pro 80V mower cuts out halfway through a row, then starts again after a minute — is the battery failing?
This is thermal protection activating, not cell failure. The blade motor generates sustained heat under continuous load, and the BMS trips output when internal cell temperature hits the cutoff threshold. Allow a 5-minute cooldown with the battery removed from the mower so airflow can reach the pack. If it happens consistently after 5 cycles of use, check whether the deck is partially clogged — restricted airflow across the blade forces the motor to draw more current and heats the pack faster.
The new battery feels noticeably warmer than my old one during the first few charges — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. New Li-ion cells run slightly warmer during the first 3 to 5 cycles while the electrodes condition and internal resistance settles. We measured surface temperature on this pack during bench cycling — it peaks within normal range and drops to match a broken-in pack by cycle 5. If the pack is too hot to touch or the charger faults out, that's a different issue; normal conditioning warmth is firm-warm, not burning.
My GreenWorks Pro 80V mower starts sluggishly on the first cold morning of spring even with a fully charged battery — why?
Li-ion capacity drops measurably below 10°C because cold cells have higher internal resistance, which limits how much current they can deliver on demand. The blade motor's startup inrush hits a restricted pack and the mower feels underpowered or hesitates. Store the battery indoors the night before a cold-morning mow and insert it just before use — a pack at 18–20°C will deliver full rated current from the first pull of the trigger.
