Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Wolf Garten RL1000 / RL2000 Series — 24V Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery
This is a 24V, 20000mAh (480Wh) sealed lead-acid replacement battery for the Wolf Garten RL1000, RL2000, RL500, RL550, and compatible robotic mower models. It slots into the battery bay and powers the drive motors, blade motor, and onboard navigation electronics. Capacity figures are taken directly from the product specification — not estimated.
- RL500 / RL550 / RL1000 / RL2000 compatibility: These models share the same 24V battery architecture, bay dimensions, and connector arrangement. The sealed lead-acid chemistry matches the original charge management circuit, so the onboard charger handles charge termination the same way it does with the factory pack.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles simulating blade motor inrush and drive load. The internal cells maintained stable voltage under combined motor draw, and the terminal voltage recovered correctly after each load spike.
- Winter storage — discharge floor matters on SLA: Sealed lead-acid batteries sulfate permanently if left in a discharged state through winter. Before parking the mower for the season, bring the battery to a full charge first. A deeply discharged SLA pack left for three or more months may not recover, even with a quality charger.
Charger showing fault after the mower sat in the garage all winter
Sealed lead-acid batteries self-discharge slowly over winter, and if the terminal voltage drops below roughly 20V, many automatic chargers will refuse to start a charge cycle — they read the pack as a short or a dead cell. This is a charger protection response, not a sign the battery is permanently damaged. Some chargers have a recovery or desulphation mode that applies a low-current pulse to bring the voltage back into the acceptance window. If yours does not, a bench charger set to manual mode can push the voltage above 20V, after which the automatic charger should accept the pack and continue normally.
Mower cuts out mid-row then restarts after a short pause
This is thermal protection activating, not a faulty battery. When the blade motor works through thick or wet grass, current draw spikes well above normal running load. If the internal temperature of the pack climbs too high, the protection circuit disconnects the output to prevent cell damage. The mower goes quiet, sits for a few minutes, and then resumes once the pack cools. Keep the mowing zone clear of heavy clippings buildup, and if it happens repeatedly on the same patch, reduce the mowing boundary to let the mower handle smaller sections at a pass.

Frequently Asked Questions
The charger light goes straight to fault when I plug in the battery at the start of spring — is the pack dead?
Probably not. Sealed lead-acid packs self-discharge over winter, and if the terminal voltage has dropped below around 20V, most automatic chargers reject the pack as a protection measure rather than attempting to charge it. Use a charger with a manual or recovery mode to push the voltage above 20V, and then retry your standard charger — it should accept the pack and begin a normal charge cycle from there.
The mower stops halfway through a run on long grass and starts again on its own a few minutes later — why?
That is thermal cutoff doing its job. Thick or wet grass forces the blade motor to draw significantly more current, which heats the battery faster than normal. Once the pack temperature exceeds the protection threshold, the circuit disconnects output until it cools down. Let the mower rest for five minutes and it will restart. If it happens on every run, clear any clipping buildup from the cutting zone and reduce the active mowing area so each pass covers less dense grass.
The new battery feels warmer than the old one did after a full run — should I be concerned?
Not for the first several cycles. A new sealed lead-acid pack has not yet gone through the conditioning process that the previous battery completed over months of use. Internal resistance is slightly higher on a fresh pack, which means more heat generated during charge and discharge. After five to eight full charge and discharge cycles the temperature should settle to a level similar to what you saw with the original battery.
