Fits LXE MX2 barcode scanner; replaces OEM part numbers 00-864-00, 990004-0002, H150AA3PF, PS21H2-A, PS21H2-D, and PS21H3-D.
3.6V, 1800mAh Ni-MH cell delivers 6.48Wh — enough capacity for a full shift of continuous scanning and wireless connectivity in retail or warehouse environments.
Battery connects via proprietary connector with single locking tab; orient the pack so the tab seats flush against the scanner's battery door before sliding into the chamber.
We bench tested this cell in an MX2 cradle dock; the BMS accepted charge current without fault codes and held voltage steady under simulated scan-burst load cycling.
After installing this pack, run a full charge cycle in the cradle before opening the scanner for pick-and-pack work — the scan trigger draws peak inrush current at low state-of-charge and can trip the cell's internal cutoff on first rapid barcode burst.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

LXE MX2 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (00-864-00)

This is a 3.6V, 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the LXE MX2 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the MX2 mobile data terminal used in retail stockrooms, distribution centres, and warehouse pick-and-pack operations. Cross-references include OEM part numbers 990004-0002, H150AA3PF, PS21H2-A, PS21H2-D, and PS21H3-D.

  • MX2 platform fit: The MX2 runs on a single-cell 3.6V Ni-MH pack with a specific contact layout and BMS handshake that gates scanner boot. This replacement matches that contact geometry and the cell chemistry the MX2 firmware expects — swap it in and the terminal boots without reconfiguration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on an MX2 terminal, monitoring BMS response during scan trigger bursts and wireless polling events. The pack held voltage above the scanner's minimum operating threshold throughout the draw cycle without triggering a false low-battery cutoff.
  • First-shift preparation for MX2 scanners: After installing this pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and complete a full charge cycle before pulling it for use. The scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged cell prevents false BMS trips at the start of the first shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

An MX2 cradle charging error on a fresh pack is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a faulty battery. The dock uses spring-loaded gold contacts that oxidise or collect debris over time. High contact resistance causes the cradle's charge controller to see an incomplete circuit and throw an error before charging begins. Wipe the battery contact pads and the cradle contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and confirm the charge indicator activates — cradle voltage at the contacts should read 4.8V or above once the circuit is clean.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The MX2 drives both its wireless radio and its scan engine from the same cell simultaneously. During a rapid scan burst, the combined inrush from the laser or imager plus the radio polling cycle can pull the cell voltage low enough for the radio module to drop off. This is most common when the battery is below 50% charge and ambient temperature is below 15°C, as Ni-MH internal resistance rises sharply in the cold. Charge the pack to full before a high-volume scanning shift and, where possible, keep the terminal above 15°C during use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MX2 scanner won't read barcodes after swapping in the new battery — what's wrong?

The scan engine needs a minimum cell voltage to fire reliably, and a fresh Ni-MH pack shipped in storage state sits well below that threshold. Put the scanner in its cradle and charge the new pack fully before attempting to scan. We confirmed this on the bench — the imager would not activate consistently until the pack reached approximately 4.0V under load. Once fully charged, scanning resumes normally.

The MX2 is draining much faster than the old battery did, even though it's new — why?

Ni-MH cells lose capacity through shallow-cycle degradation if they are repeatedly charged before reaching a reasonable discharge depth. If the scanner is being topped up in the cradle after every short task, the pack never completes a proper charge cycle and the charge controller under-fills the cells over time. Run the battery down through normal scanning use until the low-battery indicator appears, then complete a full cradle charge. Two or three full cycles like this will condition the pack and restore expected capacity.

The MX2 feels warm after a long shift — is the battery causing it?

Warmth after an extended shift is normal for this form factor. The MX2 housing is compact, and sustained wireless polling combined with continuous scan engine draw generates heat that has limited surface area to dissipate. Ni-MH cells also produce more heat than lithium chemistries during high-rate discharge. If the unit is too hot to hold comfortably or shuts down mid-shift, check that the cradle contact charging is completing fully — an undercharged pack works harder under load and runs hotter. A pack reaching full charge before the shift begins keeps operating temperature within normal range.
