Fits Denso BHT-2065, BHT-700, BHT-2000 barcode scanners; replaces OEM part 496466-0240.
4.8V, 900mAh Ni-MH pack delivers 4.32Wh to maintain scan and wireless radio draw during shifts.
Connector slides into scanner battery bay with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush against housing.
We bench-tested the cell on a BHT-2065 unit through 50 scan-burst cycles; BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
Place scanner in cradle for one full charge cycle before field use—scan trigger inrush current is highest on depleted cells and can trip false BMS cutoff on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Denso BHT-2065 / BHT-700 / BHT-2000 — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (496466-0240)

This is a 4.8V, 900mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Denso BHT-2065, BHT-700, and BHT-2000 portable data collection terminals. These scanners are used in retail, warehousing, and logistics for barcode scanning and inventory tracking. It replaces OEM part number 496466-0240 directly.

  • BHT-2065, BHT-700, and BHT-2000 compatibility: All three models run on the same 4.8V NiMH cell pack with the same physical form factor and connector orientation. The BMS handshake and charge termination behaviour is identical across the series, so one pack covers the full range.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-and-transmit sequences on the bench. The BMS held stable under the combined inrush of the scan trigger and wireless radio, with no false cutoff events at any state of charge above the minimum threshold.
  • First-shift charge protocol: After installing this pack, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. The scan trigger inrush current spikes hardest when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged cell on day one prevents the BMS from tripping on the first scan burst of the shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a brand-new pack

NiMH packs ship in a partially discharged state to stabilise cell chemistry during transit. Some Denso cradles read this low starting voltage as a fault condition and throw a charging error rather than entering a normal charge cycle. The fix is to seat and reseat the pack twice, wiping the gold contacts on both the battery and cradle with a dry cloth first. Contact resistance above roughly 0.1 ohm is enough to trigger the fault — clean contacts resolve it in most cases without any further action.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

During a fast scan burst, the BHT series draws current simultaneously from the scan engine and the wireless radio. On a degraded or deeply discharged cell, this combined load causes a brief voltage sag that drops below the radio module's minimum operating threshold — the wireless link drops before the battery protection circuit even activates. This is not a firmware issue or a pairing problem. Charge the pack to full before the shift and confirm the resting voltage is at or above 4.6V before docking the unit in a high-throughput scan zone.

Frequently Asked Questions

The scanner reads barcodes fine on a fresh charge but misses scans or shows a dim beam halfway through the shift — why?

The scan engine laser or imager needs a minimum voltage to fire at full power. As a NiMH pack discharges, its terminal voltage drops gradually — unlike lithium cells, there is no flat plateau. Below roughly 4.2V under load, the scan engine output falls and read rates drop before the battery indicator even shows low. Return the scanner to the cradle for a top-up charge and verify the resting pack voltage is above 4.5V before returning it to the floor.

The cradle charged the old battery without issue, but it's throwing an error light on the new 496466-0240 pack — what's going on?

Denso cradles use a delta-V detection method to confirm charge acceptance. A new NiMH pack with a very low starting voltage can look identical to a failed cell to the cradle's charge controller, triggering a fault before the charge cycle starts. Wipe the battery contacts and cradle contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and hold it down for three seconds. If the error clears, run a full charge cycle. If it persists, check for corrosion or bent contact pins in the cradle dock.

The scanner runs warm after a long shift scanning in a small stockroom — is that a problem with this pack?

It is normal for NiMH chemistry to generate more heat than lithium during charge and discharge, especially under the sustained combined draw of the scan engine and wireless radio in an enclosed housing. Warmth to the touch is within spec. If the housing is hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold, the wireless polling interval may be set too aggressively for the environment — check the device configuration utility and increase the polling interval. Let the pack cool to ambient before returning it to the cradle for the next charge cycle.
