Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

iRiver P7 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (PG822401AA)
This is a 3.7V 2000mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the iRiver P7 portable media player. It fits the P7, 1P0716SIL 16GB, 1P0708SIL 8GB, and REI-P7(B) variants. The OEM part number is PG822401AA.
- P7 platform compatibility: The 1P0716SIL, 1P0708SIL, and REI-P7(B) all share the same 3.7V Li-Polymer cell format, connector pinout, and BMS voltage thresholds as the base P7. One battery fits the entire line.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the P7 platform. The BMS accepted charge current without fault codes, and the protection circuit engaged cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff.
- Post-install charge cycle: After fitting this battery, connect the P7 to a charger and let it charge fully before first use. Media players commonly enter a deep-discharge protection state after sitting unused, and the device may not respond to the power button until the cell clears that threshold via slow trickle charge.
Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the P7
The P7 uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate battery level — it does not use a coulomb counter. After fitting a new cell, the firmware's voltage-to-percentage map is calibrated against the old, degraded cell's discharge curve. This mismatch causes the indicator to jump or read inaccurately for the first few cycles. Run two to three full charge and discharge cycles, and the readings will stabilise as the firmware re-anchors its thresholds to the new cell's actual resting voltage.
Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty
The P7's audio amplifier draws a spike of current during playback that the battery indicator's voltage sampling does not capture between refresh intervals. As the cell nears the bottom of its discharge curve, this current draw causes a brief voltage sag that crosses the BMS cutoff threshold before the displayed percentage reaches zero. The BMS then shuts down the device to protect the cell. This is expected behaviour, not a fault — it becomes less pronounced after the first few full cycles when the firmware's low-voltage reference stabilises around 3.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My iRiver P7 won't turn on after sitting unused for months — is the battery dead?
Not necessarily dead. Li-Polymer cells in stored media players often drop below the BMS re-activation threshold, which locks the device out of normal power-on. Connect the P7 to its charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes without pressing anything — the protection circuit needs trickle current to recover before it will accept a normal charge rate. If the screen shows a charging indicator after that window, the cell is recovering. If nothing appears after 60 minutes on charge, the original cell has likely dropped below 2.5V and will not recover without replacement.
Why does my P7's battery percentage jump around erratically right after I swapped the battery?
The P7 reads battery level by sampling cell voltage at fixed intervals and mapping that to a percentage table calibrated to the original cell's age and internal resistance. A fresh cell has a flatter discharge curve and lower internal resistance than the old one, so the firmware's map produces inaccurate and jumpy readings at first. Run two to three complete charge and discharge cycles and the indicator will settle. No reset or firmware action is needed — it self-corrects as the voltage samples accumulate.
The P7 plays fine but dies faster when I have the equaliser or backlight set high — is something wrong with the new battery?
Nothing is wrong. The P7's display backlight and DSP equaliser processing both add meaningful load on top of standard audio playback, and Li-Polymer cells deliver less usable capacity when current draw increases. This is a chemistry behaviour, not a fault. Lower the backlight brightness to its mid setting and use a flat or light EQ profile — those two changes reduce draw more than any other setting on the P7. The cell's rated 2000mAh is measured at a low, steady discharge rate, not under combined DSP and backlight load.
