Fits CDX Spiro 850 spirometer, replaces OEM battery CS-MLA500MD for pulmonary function testing.
7.2V, 1200mAh Ni-MH cell delivers sustained power through complete lung capacity and airflow measurement cycles.
Battery slides into rear compartment with single-pin connector; locking tab seats flush against device housing.
We bench-tested the pack on CDX's load profile; BMS accepted charge current without cutoff, delivered stable voltage throughout discharge.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

CDX Spiro 850 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 7.2V, 1200mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the original power cell in the CDX Spiro 850 portable spirometer. The Spiro 850 is a clinical device used for pulmonary function testing — measuring lung capacity and airflow at point of care. When the original cell degrades, test sessions cut short and the device alarms prematurely; this replacement restores full operating power.

  • Spiro 850 fit: The Spiro 850 uses a 7.2V Ni-MH pack with a specific connector orientation and BMS handshake. This cell matches that voltage rail and physical footprint. No third-party adaptors or modifications are required.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran a full charge-discharge cycle on the Spiro 850 platform. The BMS completed its initialisation sequence, accepted the cell without fault codes, and the device reached ready state for testing mode. Voltage at full charge measured within the expected Ni-MH ceiling for this configuration.
  • Post-swap startup protocol: After installing this battery, allow the Spiro 850 to complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting the boot sequence. Medical-grade BMS firmware runs a chemistry verification at startup — cutting power mid-cycle registers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Why the Spiro 850 reports low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The Spiro 850's charge IC applies a conservative acceptance threshold calibrated to an aged OEM cell. A new Ni-MH cell has a slightly different internal resistance profile during the first few cycles, and the BMS can misread this as insufficient charge state. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is the BMS learning the new cell's characteristics. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before relying on the battery indicator for clinical use. After that cycle, the charge state reporting stabilises.

Spiro 850 failing to power on after the replacement cell sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage. If this battery has been on the shelf for several months, its resting voltage may have dropped below the Spiro 850's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 6.0V for a 7.2V Ni-MH pack — causing the device to refuse to boot. Place the battery on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle before attempting to power on the device. If the charger does not begin the cycle immediately, most clinical chargers have a trickle pre-charge mode that activates automatically once voltage is detected above the minimum recovery floor.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Spiro 850 keeps alarming low battery straight after I put in the new cell and charged it — is the battery faulty?

This is a BMS calibration issue, not a cell fault. The Spiro 850's charge IC is tuned to the resistance profile of a used OEM cell, and a fresh Ni-MH cell reads differently on the first cycle. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the device before trusting the battery indicator. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates and the alarm clears.

The device powers on but shuts off unexpectedly during a patient test session — what's causing this?

In the first ten cycles, a new Ni-MH cell delivers less consistent current under the load profile that the Spiro 850 pulls during active spirometry testing. The BMS interprets a brief voltage sag as a depleted cell and triggers a protective shutdown. This behaviour reduces significantly after the cell has been through several complete charge-discharge cycles. Complete at least three full cycles before using the battery in a clinical session.

My Spiro 850 won't power on at all after fitting this battery — it was fully charged before storage but has been sitting unused for months.

Ni-MH cells lose charge during storage, and if the pack dropped below the Spiro 850's minimum boot voltage — around 6.0V on a 7.2V pack — the device will not attempt to start. Connect the battery to the charger and allow a full uninterrupted charge cycle to complete. If the charger shows no activity initially, leave it connected for 30 minutes; most compatible chargers will begin a trickle pre-charge once they detect the cell above the zero-volt cutoff.
