Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MettlerToledo E4 XLS+ — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (E4-BATT)
This 3.7V, 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces part number E4-BATT in the MettlerToledo E4 XLS+ precision scale. The E4 XLS+ is a laboratory and clinical weighing device used in medical environments where accurate, uninterrupted operation matters. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification exactly.
- E4 XLS+ platform fit: The E4 XLS+ uses a dedicated 3.7V single-cell Li-ion rail with a BMS that checks cell chemistry at startup. The connector, cell dimensions (52.20 × 35.30 × 7.10mm), and BMS handshake profile all match the original E4-BATT specification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the E4 XLS+ power-on sequence and full charge cycle. The BMS accepted the cell without fault, completed its startup verification, and held charge through repeated load cycles without triggering a low-battery alarm.
- Startup self-test protocol: After installing this cell, allow the E4 XLS+ to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs BMS verification at boot — cutting power during this sequence triggers a persistent false battery fault that will not clear until the next clean reboot.
Device not completing boot sequence after battery swap
The E4 XLS+ runs a BMS learn cycle during its first boot on a new cell. If the device was stored with a depleted original battery, the BMS may flag the new cell as unverified and stall partway through startup. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is the device requesting one full charge-discharge cycle to calibrate. Charge the new cell to 100%, allow a full discharge in normal use, then recharge. After that cycle, the boot sequence completes normally.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge
The E4 XLS+ charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it first sees a new cell — it cannot confirm the cell's internal resistance profile until one cycle is complete. The display may stop at 90–95% and hold there for an extended period on the first charge. This is the charge controller applying a trickle-top phase, not a defective cell. Let the charge cycle finish without disconnecting the device. By the second full charge, the indicator will reach 100% and the charge IC will operate at its normal rate.

Frequently Asked Questions
The E4 XLS+ is alarming low battery immediately after I put in the new cell and charged it fully — what's happening?
The E4 XLS+ BMS sets its low-battery threshold against a verified cell profile, and a brand-new cell hasn't passed that verification yet. The alarm triggers because the BMS hasn't completed its first learn cycle — not because the cell is actually low. Run one full charge-discharge cycle in normal use and recharge to 100%. After that cycle, the BMS recognises the cell's capacity and the alarm clears.
The replacement cell sat in storage for several months before I installed it — now the E4 XLS+ won't power on at all.
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage, and if the resting voltage drops below approximately 2.5V, the E4 XLS+ BMS will refuse to engage as a safety measure. Place the battery on charge inside the device for at least 30–60 minutes before attempting to power on — the charge IC will apply a low-current pre-charge to recover the cell voltage above the BMS recovery threshold. If the device shows no charging indicator after 30 minutes on charge, the cell has discharged too deeply to recover and a new replacement cell is needed.
The E4 XLS+ is shutting off unexpectedly mid-weighing, but the battery shows a good charge level.
New Li-ion cells have higher internal resistance in their first 10 cycles, which causes a brief voltage sag under the load the E4 XLS+ draws during an active weighing operation. The BMS reads that sag as a critically low cell and cuts power to protect the device — even though the displayed charge level looks healthy. This resolves as the cell conditions through normal use. Complete at least 5 full charge-discharge cycles before relying on the device in a clinical workflow, and verify that the shutdown has stopped before returning it to active use.
