Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Rainin E4 / E4 XLS+ Pipette — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (6109-031)
This 3.7V, 1100mAh lithium-ion cell replaces part number 6109-031 in the Rainin E4 and E4 XLS+ electronic pipettes. These are precision laboratory instruments used for liquid handling and sample preparation in clinical and research settings. The battery powers the onboard motor and control electronics that govern aspiration and dispensing cycles.
- E4 and E4 XLS+ platform fit: Both models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — a single cell serves both variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge-discharge cycles through the E4's control board and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell, logged correct state-of-charge data, and cleared all battery fault flags after one full conditioning cycle.
- Power-on self-test protocol: After installing this cell, let the pipette complete its full startup self-test without interrupting power. The E4's BMS runs a battery verification routine at boot — cutting power mid-sequence triggers a persistent false battery fault that will not clear until the next uninterrupted reboot.
Low battery alarm immediately after a confirmed full charge
The E4's BMS compares cell impedance and voltage recovery rate against stored OEM thresholds during self-test. A new replacement cell has not yet completed a conditioning cycle, so its internal impedance reads higher than the OEM reference — the BMS flags it as degraded even when the cell is fully charged. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates its thresholds and the alarm clears. If the alarm persists past two full cycles, check resting voltage — it should sit at or above 3.6V open circuit.
Pipette will not power on after the replacement cell sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V, the E4's BMS enters deep-discharge lockout and blocks normal startup to protect the cell. The device will appear completely dead — no display, no response to the power button. Place the pipette on its charging dock for a minimum of 30 minutes without attempting to power it on. The charger's pre-charge stage recovers the cell voltage above the BMS recovery threshold, typically 2.9V, at which point normal startup resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Rainin E4 shuts off mid-aspiration after I installed the new battery — is the cell defective?
Almost certainly not. The E4's motor draws a sharp current spike at the start of each aspiration cycle, and a new cell in its first several uses has not yet reached stable internal resistance — the BMS sees a voltage sag during that spike and trips a protective cutoff. Run five to ten full charge-discharge cycles before drawing any conclusions about the cell. After conditioning, the voltage sag on motor start drops within the BMS window and mid-cycle shutoffs stop.
The charge indicator on the E4 won't reach 100% on the first charge — it stops at 85–90% and stays there.
The E4's charge IC applies a conservative current limit on cells it has not yet profiled, which means the first charge terminates early based on a default voltage slope rather than true full capacity. This is normal behaviour on cycle one. Discharge the pipette through normal use until the low-battery indicator activates, then charge fully without interruption. The charge IC updates its profile on that second cycle and the indicator will reach 100%.
The E4 completed its self-test and showed a full charge, but the low-battery alarm came back within a few minutes of use — what's happening?
This points to the BMS learn cycle not yet being complete after the cell swap. The E4 tracks charge state dynamically during use, and on an unconditioned cell, capacity estimates drift quickly once current draw begins — the firmware interprets the drift as rapid depletion and triggers the alarm. This is separate from the post-install self-test alarm. Complete one full uninterrupted charge-discharge cycle, confirm resting voltage holds at or above 3.6V after charging, then return the pipette to use.
