Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VistaLab Ovation 10ul Pipettor — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (9060-4001)
This 3.7V 700mAh Li-ion cell replaces OEM part 9060-4001 in the VistaLab Ovation 10ul electronic pipettor and compatible Multichannel Pipettes. It restores power to the motorised dispensing mechanism and onboard electronics. Capacity matches the original at 700mAh (2.59Wh) — do not substitute a higher-capacity cell, as the charge IC is calibrated to this spec.
- Ovation 10ul and Multichannel fit: Both models share the same 3.7V single-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The 9060-4001 part number covers both — no adapter or wiring modification needed.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, standby, and motor-load discharge on the Ovation platform. The BMS accepted the cell, completed its verification routine, and reported accurate state-of-charge throughout.
- Post-swap self-test procedure: After installing this cell, allow the Ovation to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup — cutting power mid-sequence locks in a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on the first charge after swap
The Ovation's charge IC applies a conservative current ceiling when it encounters a new cell with an unrecognised charge history. On the first charge cycle, the indicator may plateau at 90–95% and hold there. This is the IC limiting charge rate to protect an uncharacterised cell — not a fault. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle and the IC recalibrates its end-of-charge threshold to the new cell's internal resistance profile, after which the indicator will read 100% correctly.
Ovation alarming low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The low-battery alarm threshold in the Ovation's BMS is tuned to the voltage curve of a conditioned OEM cell. A fresh replacement cell has a slightly different resting voltage profile for the first several cycles, which the BMS can misread as low state-of-charge even when the cell is fully charged. This is not a defective battery — it resolves after the cell completes one full charge-discharge cycle and the BMS learns the new voltage curve. Do not use the pipettor for clinical sample work until this conditioning cycle is complete and the alarm no longer triggers at full charge.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Ovation shuts off mid-use even though the battery shows charged — what's happening?
In the first 10 cycles, a new Li-ion cell has higher internal resistance than a conditioned one. Under the motor load of continuous dispensing, that resistance causes a momentary voltage sag that crosses the BMS under-voltage cutoff threshold, triggering a shutdown. This is not a fault — it corrects itself as the cell's resistance drops through early cycling. Run at least five full charge-discharge cycles before using this battery on high-throughput dispensing runs.
The pipettor won't power on at all after the replacement cell sat in its packaging for a while — how do I recover it?
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage has dropped below the BMS recovery threshold (typically around 2.5V), the Ovation's protection circuit will block power-on entirely as a safety measure. Place the pipettor on charge and leave it connected for at least 90 minutes without attempting to power on — the charger applies a trickle pre-charge to bring the cell above the recovery threshold before the BMS re-enables the output. Once it crosses that threshold, normal charging resumes and the device will power on.
The Ovation completed its self-test but the displayed battery percentage is erratic — jumps between readings during use. What causes this?
The state-of-charge algorithm uses a stored voltage-to-capacity curve that was built on the previous cell's aged chemistry. After a fresh swap, the BMS is mapping a new cell's voltage curve against that old baseline, producing inaccurate and unstable percentage readings. Complete one full uninterrupted charge cycle — charge to full, discharge through normal use until the low-battery alert triggers, then charge to full again. After that cycle the BMS recalculates its baseline and percentage display stabilises.
