Fits Orbic Speed 5G hotspot; replaces OEM part numbers BTE-4401 and R500L5.
3.8V, 4800mAh Li-Polymer cell; restores full charge capacity on models R500L, R500L5, Speed 5G UW.
Connector slides straight into the battery compartment; locking tab seats flush against the hotspot frame.
We bench-tested this cell on a Speed 5G pulling simultaneous 5G modem and Wi-Fi load; BMS held stable voltage sag under maximum connection count.
On first use with extended sessions, keep the hotspot in well-ventilated space — the 5G radio at maximum output power generates heat that stresses this pack.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Orbic Speed 5G / Speed 5G UW — 3.8V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BTE-4401)

This 3.8V, 4800mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the OEM unit in the Orbic Speed 5G, Speed 5G UW, R500L5, and R500L mobile hotspots. These devices run a 5G modem and a simultaneous Wi-Fi radio, putting sustained current draw on the cell throughout the day. If your hotspot shuts off unexpectedly or no longer lasts through a work session, the cell is the first thing to replace.

  • Speed 5G / Speed 5G UW platform fit: The R500 platform shares a single battery footprint across the Speed 5G and Speed 5G UW variants. The connector pinout and BMS handshake are identical across those model numbers, so one cell covers the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery under combined 5G modem and Wi-Fi radio load — the same dual-draw condition the device runs in the field. The BMS held stable cutoff thresholds and did not trip under the surge current typical of 5G band switching.
  • Ventilation during extended hotspot sessions: Keep the hotspot on a hard, flat surface with its vents clear. When connected devices are far from the hotspot, the cellular radio runs at full transmit power. That heat buildup sits directly against the battery cell and accelerates capacity fade faster than normal use.

Why the Speed 5G drops connections mid-session under a full device load

The R500L5 runs two radios simultaneously — the 5G modem and the Wi-Fi access point. When six or more devices are connected and the 5G signal is marginal, both radios ramp to peak output at the same time. An aged or degraded cell cannot sustain that combined draw without voltage sagging below the BMS cutoff threshold, which reads as a sudden disconnect rather than a low-battery warning. A fresh cell with full capacity holds the voltage rail stable through those load spikes.

Hotspot shows charging but won't boot after sitting unused for weeks

Li-Polymer cells that drop below approximately 2.5V enter a deep-discharge state where the BMS blocks normal boot to protect the cell. The hotspot may show a charging indicator but refuse to power on. Leave the device on charge uninterrupted for 45–60 minutes before attempting to boot — the charger needs time to trickle the cell back above the BMS re-enable threshold. If it still won't boot after that window, the original cell has likely failed and this replacement will resolve it.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Orbic Speed 5G keeps dropping all connected devices for a few seconds, then reconnects — what's causing that?

That pattern points to voltage sag, not a Wi-Fi issue. When the 5G modem and Wi-Fi radio both hit peak draw simultaneously — common when signal is weak or several devices are active — an aged cell can't hold the voltage rail, and the BMS briefly cuts output to protect the cell. The hotspot reboots its radios, which users see as a mass disconnect. Replacing the battery with a full-capacity cell eliminates the sag that triggers the cutoff.

Why does the Speed 5G UW drain so much faster when I switch it to 5G mode versus keeping it on 4G?

The 5G modem in the R500 platform draws 30–50% more current than the 4G radio — that's not a defect, it's the power cost of the wider band and faster speeds. On top of that, 5G coverage is still thinner than 4G in most areas, so the modem frequently pushes transmit power to maximum trying to hold a signal. A worn cell with reduced capacity makes this gap feel even larger. Fitting a new 4800mAh cell restores the full buffer that was sized for exactly this load.

The hotspot was stored in a drawer for two months and now won't turn on even though it's plugged in — is the battery recoverable?

Li-Polymer cells left discharged for extended periods drop below the BMS re-enable voltage, typically around 2.5V. The charger circuit sees a cell that looks shorted and throttles back to a trickle, which is why the device shows power but won't boot. Leave it plugged in continuously for at least an hour before pressing the power button — rushing it won't work. If the cell doesn't recover above boot threshold after that, it won't recover at all and needs to be replaced.
