Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Ecom 39a-Ex — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (233488-001)

This 3.7V, 2250mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the OEM cell in the Ecom iPAQ 39a-Ex handheld PDA. It fits the 39a-Ex directly, restoring power to a device used for scheduling, contact management, and mobile field computing. Voltage and capacity match the original specification exactly.

  • 39a-Ex platform fit: The 39a-Ex runs a 3.7V single-cell architecture with a lithium-polymer pack. This battery matches that voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake — the device recognises it and charges normally through the cradle.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the 39a-Ex platform. The BMS accepted the pack without fault codes, and the charge controller brought it to full voltage without thermal events.
  • RAM data protection before swap: Sync all open files and application state to the host computer before removing the battery. The 39a-Ex stores active data in SRAM powered directly by the main cell — cutting power without syncing first causes data loss that cannot be recovered from the device itself.

Why the 39a-Ex shows a charging indicator but never reaches full charge

A degraded lithium-polymer cell can enter a state where the BMS reports charging activity but the cell voltage plateaus well below 4.2V. The cradle or USB charge circuit sees current draw and assumes the cycle is running, but the cell is not accepting a full charge. This is a cell-level failure, not a cradle fault. Replace the battery and verify the device reports full charge status in the system settings after a complete cycle.

39a-Ex not booting after new battery installed

A fresh lithium-polymer replacement will often ship at a partial state of charge — sometimes below the minimum voltage the 39a-Ex boot sequence requires to initialise the OS. The device powers off immediately or shows nothing on screen. Place the battery in the charging cradle for at least one full charge cycle before attempting to power on. If the screen remains blank after a full charge, perform a soft reset by pressing the reset pin on the rear of the unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My 39a-Ex lost all my contacts and calendar data after I swapped the battery — is it gone for good?

Yes, if the device lost power completely during the swap and no sync had been done beforehand. The 39a-Ex stores active application data in SRAM, which is volatile — it requires continuous battery power to hold its contents. Once the cell is removed and the internal capacitor drains, that data is gone from the device. Going forward, always perform a full ActiveSync or backup to a host PC before pulling the battery.

The 39a-Ex wireless sync drops out constantly since I installed the replacement battery — what's wrong?

The 39a-Ex radio draws significantly more current than standby operation, and the radio will throttle or disconnect if cell voltage sags under that load. This usually means the replacement battery was not fully charged before use — a partially charged lithium-polymer cell cannot sustain the voltage the radio needs under draw. Put the device in the cradle and run a complete charge cycle, then retry the wireless sync. If drops continue, check that the cradle contacts are clean and making firm contact.

Why does my 39a-Ex seem to drain the new battery much faster than expected during scanning work?

Active use on the 39a-Ex — screen on, wireless active, and frequent input — draws several times more current than standby. The 2250mAh rating reflects capacity at a controlled discharge rate, not under combined radio, display, and processor load. Shorter apparent life in field use is expected behaviour, not a battery fault. To extend time between charges, reduce screen brightness and disable wireless when syncing is not needed.
