This 3.7V, 2250mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces OEM part 233488-001 in the HP iPAQ H3800 series Pocket PC. It fits the H3800, H3830, H3835, and H3870 alongside more than 20 additional H3800-series handhelds. Voltage and connector match the original so the device powers on without modification.

  • H3800 series compatibility: Every H3800-series unit listed runs the same 3.7V single-cell Li-Polymer architecture with an identical connector footprint and BMS handshake protocol. That shared platform means one cell covers the full lineup without adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on an H3870 and verified the BMS reported accurate state-of-charge to the OS. Protection circuits responded correctly to both overcharge and low-voltage cutoff thresholds during our runs.
  • RAM backup before battery removal: The iPAQ H3800 stores open files, contacts, and application state in volatile SRAM powered directly by the main battery. Sync all data to your host PC via ActiveSync before pulling the cell — a full power interruption wipes anything not committed to flash storage.

Why the iPAQ H3800 loses data when the battery is swapped

The H3800 does not have onboard flash storage for user RAM. Everything in working memory — open calendar entries, unsaved contacts, running app state — lives in SRAM kept alive by the main battery. The moment cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff during a swap, that SRAM loses power and clears. There is no background save. A full ActiveSync to a host PC or a backup to a storage card before removal is the only way to protect that data.

iPAQ H3800 stuck on boot screen after new battery installed

A new Li-Polymer cell shipped at storage charge — typically around 3.6V — can sit just below the voltage threshold the H3800 boot ROM requires to complete POST. The device gets partway through the startup sequence and stalls. Connect to the OEM AC adapter and charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting a fresh boot. If the screen stays blank after charging, hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a hard reset, then allow another full charge cycle before booting again.

I swapped the battery and now all my contacts and calendar entries are gone — did the new battery wipe the device?

The battery did not wipe the device — the data was always in volatile SRAM, which loses power the moment the old cell is removed. There is no fault with the new battery. Unfortunately, any data that was not synced to a host PC via ActiveSync before the swap is gone. Going forward, run a full ActiveSync sync before every battery change to commit data to a stable location.

The H3800 won't finish booting after I installed the replacement — it just hangs on the startup screen.

New Li-Polymer cells ship at storage charge, usually around 3.6V, which can fall below the minimum the H3800 boot ROM needs to complete POST. Connect the AC adapter and charge for at least 30 minutes before trying to boot again. If it still hangs, hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a hard reset, then let the device charge to at least 3.8V before powering on.

My H3800 battery drains much faster when I use wireless sync than it does on standby — is the cell faulty?

The cell is working as expected. The H3800's wireless radio draws several times more current than the standby state, and that load pulls the cell voltage down faster, which also causes the battery meter to read lower than it actually is under load. Charge fully before any wireless sync session and avoid running other apps in the background during the transfer. A full charge — reaching 4.2V — gives the radio the headroom it needs to hold a stable connection through the entire sync.
