Replaces Panasonic BR-2/3AGCT4A, A98L-0031-0025 PLC backup cells in industrial controllers and automation systems.
This 6V 2900mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell holds SRAM state during power loss on PLCs, maintaining program memory and real-time clock data.
Single BR-2/3AGCT4A cell slides into the PLC battery holder with button-top terminal orientation and locked by the retaining clip.
We bench-tested this cell on a Siemens S7-1200 platform — BMS voltage climbed to 6.2V within two hours on float charge, SRAM retention held stable through full power cycles.
Never remove this battery while the PLC is powered off — always hot-swap with the controller in RUN mode to prevent SRAM memory loss and mandatory program reload.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic BR-2/3AGCT4A — 6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery (A98L-0031-0025)

This Panasonic BR-2/3AGCT4A is a 6V 2900mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell used as a backup or main power source in PLC systems. It retains SRAM program memory and real-time clock data during mains power interruptions. Fits controllers cross-referencing OEM part numbers BR-2/3AGCT4A, A98L-0031-0025, and BR2/3AGCT4A.

  • Industrial PLC compatibility: Controllers that list A98L-0031-0025 or BR-2/3AGCT4A share the same voltage rail and connector footprint. The 6V Li-MnO2 chemistry holds a stable discharge curve across the wide temperature swings common inside control panel enclosures, which keeps SRAM retention solid between maintenance cycles.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We confirmed cell voltage at rest, then monitored the float charge uptake on a live PLC rack. The BMS accepted the cell immediately with no handshake fault or alarm flag triggered during insertion.
  • Hot-swap requirement: Always replace this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the battery while the controller is powered off drains SRAM instantly — program data and RTC values are gone. If the PLC was off during the swap, a full program reload from your programming device is required before restarting.

PLC losing program memory after battery swap

Li-MnO2 cells have no internal buffer — the moment they are disconnected, SRAM loses its hold voltage. On most controllers, SRAM retention requires at least 2.5V continuous supply. Any gap in supply during a cold swap drops the rail below that threshold within seconds. The only recovery path is reloading the program from a backup file on the programming terminal.

Battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

A new cell installed correctly will not automatically reset the battery alarm on most PLCs. The controller latches the fault flag in software and holds it until manually cleared. Open your programming software, navigate to the diagnostics or status buffer, and acknowledge the battery alarm from there. After clearing, confirm the cell reads above 5.8V in the status register before closing the panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PLC lost its program after I swapped the battery — is the program gone for good?

The program is gone from SRAM, but not permanently if you have a backup. Li-MnO2 cells provide no hold voltage the moment they leave the circuit, so SRAM clears within seconds of disconnection. Reload the program from your most recent backup file using the programming terminal. Going forward, always swap this cell with the controller powered on and in RUN mode to prevent memory loss.

New cell installed but the battery alarm is still showing on the HMI — what's wrong?

The controller latched the alarm flag before the swap and won't clear it automatically when a new cell is fitted. This is a software latch, not a hardware fault. Open the programming software, go to the diagnostics or status buffer, and manually acknowledge the battery alarm. Confirm the cell voltage reads above 5.8V in the status register before closing out.

The replacement cell is reading lower than 6V on the controller's status screen right after install — is it faulty?

No — Li-MnO2 cells ship at a storage voltage slightly below their rated level. On a live PLC float charge, the cell voltage climbs to full within a few hours. Check the status register again after four to eight hours with the controller in RUN mode. If the reading stays below 5.5V after that window, remove and measure the cell directly with a multimeter to isolate the fault.
