Fits Black & Decker ASL146BT12A and ASL146K drill models; replaces OEM part numbers BL1114, BL1314, BL1514, and LB16.
14.4V lithium-ion at 1500mAh delivers 21.6Wh capacity for light to moderate fastening and boring tasks without voltage sag.
Slide-lock connector seats into the drill's battery slot with positive orientation; locking tab engages on full insertion.
We bench-tested the BMS under motor-start inrush — no overcurrent trip observed on trigger pull at full current draw.
On first use with this ASL146 platform, run the drill at half throttle for two cycles before full-torque fastening to allow the BMS to profile motor inrush current thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker ASL146BT12A Series — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL1114)

This is a 14.4V, 1500mAh Li-ion battery that replaces the OEM BL1114, BL1314, BL1514, and LB16 packs. It fits the Black & Decker ASL146BT12A and related cordless drill/driver models in the 14.4V platform. Same connector footprint and BMS handshake as the original pack.

  • ASL146 platform compatibility: The ASL146BT12A, ASL146K, ASL146KB, and ASL148K all run the same 14.4V rail with the same slide-on connector and cell configuration. One battery SKU covers all of them because the BMS communication protocol and terminal layout are identical across the series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on an ASL146K drill/driver, monitoring cell voltage under load and BMS response. The protection circuit held cutoff thresholds consistent with OEM spec — no false trips during repeated trigger pulls.
  • Motor inrush break-in on first use: On first use, run the drill at half load for two cycles before applying full torque. This lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature and set overcurrent thresholds accurately — preventing nuisance cutoffs during heavy fastening later.

BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush surge in 14.4V drill/drivers

When you pull the trigger on a drill/driver, the motor draws a sharp inrush current — often three to five times the running load — before the rotor spins up. A new or freshly charged battery with a conservative BMS can interpret that spike as a fault and cut output instantly. The protection circuit needs at least one or two cycles to distinguish normal inrush from a genuine short-circuit event. If the drill cuts out the moment you pull the trigger, that is the BMS tripping, not a defective cell.

Tool bogs under load and feels weaker than the old battery

Voltage sag under load is the usual cause — the rail voltage drops enough mid-drill that the motor loses torque before the BMS hits its cutoff floor. First, check the slide contact rails on the battery and tool for debris or oxidation; high contact resistance amplifies sag significantly. If contacts are clean and sag persists, verify the pack resting voltage after a full charge is at or above 16.0V. A pack sitting below 15.5V fully charged has a cell imbalance that a standard charger will not correct on its own.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Black & Decker drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — is the battery faulty?

Almost always this is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead cell. The motor's start-up inrush spike exceeds the protection circuit's threshold before it has learned the drill's normal draw pattern. Run two light-load cycles — drilling into soft material or driving short screws — and the BMS will recalibrate its overcurrent window. If the cutout stops after those cycles, the pack is working correctly.

The charger never stops blinking red when I put this new battery on — what's happening?

A new pack shipped or stored for some time can arrive with cell voltage below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically under 12.5V on a 14.4V pack. The charger sees the low voltage and refuses to enter the main charge cycle. Leave the pack connected for 15–20 minutes; many Black & Decker chargers run a trickle pre-charge to bring the cells back up to acceptance voltage before switching to normal charge mode. If the light does not shift after 30 minutes, check the slide contacts on both the pack and the charger port for any dirt bridging the terminals.

The drill runs fine indoors but loses noticeable power when I use it in a cold garage — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong — Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which increases voltage sag under load and reduces the current the cells can deliver. The drill feels sluggish because the motor is getting less voltage per amp drawn, not because the capacity is gone. Bring the battery inside to room temperature for 20–30 minutes before use, and performance returns to normal. Storing the pack indoors between uses rather than leaving it in the garage overnight will prevent the issue entirely.
