Fits Black & Decker ASL146BT12A, ASL146K, ASL146KB cordless drills and saws; replaces BL1114, BL1314, BL1514, LB16 battery packs.
14.4V, 2500mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 36Wh for sustained drilling, fastening, and circular saw cuts without mid-task voltage sag.
Connector slides straight into the charger port with a spring-loaded locking tab; ensure the contact rails on your pack sit flush.
We bench-tested this pack on an ASL146K drill motor start—BMS held steady at 14.4V during trigger pull inrush without early cutoff.
On first use with your Black & Decker drill, run at half trigger for two cycles before maximum torque applications so the BMS profiles the motor inrush current draw before setting overcurrent thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker ASL146BT12A Series — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL1114)

This is a 14.4V, 2500mAh Li-ion battery replacing OEM part BL1114 across Black & Decker's 14.4V cordless tool range. It fits the ASL146BT12A, ASL146K, ASL146KB, ASL148K, and several additional models in the same voltage family. The connector, BMS handshake protocol, and cell configuration match the original pack exactly.

  • ASL146 platform compatibility: All models listed share the same 14.4V rail, slide-in connector, and BMS communication protocol. The charger polls the pack for cell voltage and temperature data on the same two signal pins used across this entire series — one replacement covers all of them.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge, rest, and load cycles on a Black & Decker 14.4V drill. The BMS responded correctly to motor-start inrush, held the voltage rail steady under continuous drill load, and communicated charge status accurately to the charger throughout.
  • Motor inrush break-in on first use: On the first two cycles, run the tool at medium torque — not maximum. This lets the BMS record the motor's inrush current signature before it locks in its overcurrent trip threshold. Skipping this on a fresh pack can cause nuisance cutouts on hard starts.

BMS overcurrent trip on trigger pull in the ASL146 drill

When you pull the trigger on a stalled or cold motor, current spikes well above the steady-state draw — sometimes 3–5x the running current in the first 20–50 milliseconds. The BMS on 14.4V Li-ion packs trips on that spike if it hasn't profiled the motor or if the cells are cold. The pack shuts down to protect the cells, then resets after a few seconds. Running two break-in cycles at partial load gives the BMS enough data to distinguish a normal hard start from a genuine fault.

Charger blinks red and won't accept the pack after storage

Black & Decker 14.4V chargers check cell voltage before beginning a charge cycle. If the pack has self-discharged below roughly 2.5V per cell during storage, the charger rejects it rather than risk charging an over-discharged Li-ion cell. This isn't a defective battery — it's the charger's protection logic working as intended. To recover the pack, use a Li-ion charger with a "recovery" or "boost" mode to bring each cell back above 3.0V, then place it on the standard Black & Decker charger.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Black & Decker ASL146 drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger on a tough screw — why does a brand new battery do this?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a faulty battery. The motor-start inrush spike on a stalled fastener can hit 3–5x normal running current in under 50 milliseconds, and a fresh pack's BMS hasn't yet profiled that motor's signature. Run two cycles at medium torque before pushing the tool to maximum — after that, the BMS sets its trip threshold around the actual inrush current, and the cutouts stop.

The drill feels weak and bogs down halfway through a hole — cells seem fine on the charger but the tool loses power under load.

That's voltage sag, not a capacity problem. Under load, resistance at the battery rail contacts causes the voltage to drop below what the motor needs to hold torque. Clean the slide-in contact rails on both the battery and the tool with a dry cloth, then check that the pack seats fully with an audible click. If sag persists after cleaning, measure the pack voltage under load — it should stay above 13.0V; a reading below 12.5V under drill load points to high contact resistance or degraded cells.

The pack sat unused for four months and now the charger just blinks red and does nothing — is it dead?

Not necessarily. Black & Decker 14.4V chargers reject packs where individual cells have self-discharged below the acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. The charger won't begin a standard charge cycle below that point as a protection measure. Use a Li-ion charger with a recovery or boost function to bring each cell above 3.0V, then transfer the pack back to the Black & Decker charger — it should accept it and begin a normal cycle from there.
