This 18V Li-ion battery replaces the original pack on the Haaga 355 accu cordless push sweeper. It delivers 2000mAh (36Wh) to power the rotating brush mechanism used for clearing driveways, patios, and outdoor surfaces. Slot it into the same bay as the original and the sweeper runs as normal.

The 355 accu brush motor pulls a short inrush spike the moment it engages — this is normal, but a degraded or deeply discharged pack can trip the BMS overcurrent threshold on that spike before the motor reaches steady-state draw. The result is an immediate shutoff that looks like a dead battery even when the pack shows partial charge. A new pack with fresh cells handles the spike cleanly because internal resistance stays low enough to absorb it without the BMS intervening. If the sweeper cuts out on the first press of the start lever, low cell voltage rather than mechanical fault is almost always the cause.

Charger not recognising the new pack after storage

If the charger shows no light or a blinking fault LED when you seat a new pack, cell voltage has likely dropped below the charger's acceptance threshold during shelf storage — typically around 2.5V per cell on an 18V Li-ion pack. Most Haaga-compatible chargers won't initiate a full charge cycle below that threshold as a protection measure. Some chargers have a recovery or "wake" mode — hold the pack seated for 30–60 seconds and the charger may trickle enough current to lift the cells above the acceptance floor. If that doesn't work, check cell voltage with a multimeter; any cell reading below 2.5V confirms a deep-discharge state requiring a recovery charge rather than a standard cycle.

That sudden cutoff on trigger press is almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a motor fault. The brush motor pulls a short inrush spike at start, and a degraded or low-voltage pack can't absorb it — the BMS shuts the pack down instantly as a protection response. Fit a fully charged replacement pack and test again before assuming any mechanical issue. If the new pack starts cleanly, the old cells were the cause.

The sweeper runs fine for a minute then goes noticeably slower and feels like it's bogging — what's causing that?

That's voltage sag under sustained load. As the cells heat up and their internal resistance rises, the voltage reaching the brush motor drops — the motor loses torque and slows down even though the pack isn't empty. It becomes worse on longer sweeping sessions or in warm weather when the housing traps heat around the cells. Check that the battery contacts are clean and seated flush; high contact resistance amplifies sag. A pack with fresh, low-resistance cells will hold rail voltage steady through a full sweeping session.

The original battery died after only a season of light use — what shortened it so fast?

Shallow cycling is the main culprit on devices used for short sessions. If the 355 accu is run for 10–15 minutes and then recharged repeatedly, the cells never complete a full charge-discharge cycle — over time, lithium plating builds up on the anode and usable capacity drops faster than normal. Letting the pack run down to roughly 20% before charging — rather than topping it up after every short use — allows the BMS to perform a proper cycle and slows that degradation. Store the battery at around 50–60% charge if the sweeper won't be used for several weeks.
