Fits Steinel MobileHEAT 3, GluePRO 18V, MH3, and MH5 cordless heat guns requiring 18V lithium-ion cells.
18V, 2000mAh capacity delivers 36Wh — sufficient for multiple heat cycles on shrink tubing and solder work before recharge.
Connector slides into the tool's battery slot with a quarter-turn lock tab; polarity keyed to prevent reverse insertion on the MobileHEAT platform.
Bench testing showed the BMS accepts tool motor inrush on trigger pull without nuisance cutoff; cell voltage sag remained within acceptable limits under sustained heating load.
On first use with the MobileHEAT 3, run the heat gun at half-power for two full cycles before sustained high-temperature operation — allows the BMS to calibrate motor thermal behavior before locking protection thresholds.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Steinel MobileHEAT 3 / GluePRO 18V — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 18V, 2000mAh (36Wh) Li-ion battery fits the Steinel MobileHEAT 3, MH3, MH5, and GluePRO 18V cordless heat tools. It slots into the same battery bay and connects to the same BMS handshake these tools use to regulate heating element power. The pack uses standard 18V Li-ion cell chemistry at the same form factor as the original.

  • MobileHEAT 3, MH5, and GluePRO 18V compatibility: These Steinel tools share the same 18V battery platform, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. One pack works across the range because the voltage rail and cell configuration are identical.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on the MobileHEAT 3 platform. The BMS correctly negotiated cell balancing, the overcurrent threshold held during heating element startup inrush, and the low-voltage cutoff triggered cleanly at the expected rail voltage.
  • Heat tool cycling care: After inserting this pack, run the tool at low heat output for the first two cycles before sustained full-power use. This allows the BMS to profile the heating element's startup current draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you push the tool hard.

BMS cutoff during heating element startup surge on the MobileHEAT 3

The MobileHEAT 3 heating element draws a sharp inrush current at power-on — significantly higher than the steady-state draw during normal operation. A freshly installed pack with an uncalibrated BMS can interpret this spike as an overcurrent fault and cut power immediately. This looks like the tool powering off the instant you press the trigger. Running two low-power warm-up cycles lets the BMS log the inrush profile and stop tripping on it.

Tool output drops and heat feels weaker mid-session

Voltage sag under sustained heating load causes the 18V rail to drop below the tool's regulation threshold, reducing heating element output. This is a contact resistance problem as often as it is a cell problem — check the battery bay terminals for oxidation or debris. Clean the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and reseat the pack firmly. If sag continues, check open-circuit voltage on the pack; a healthy cell should read at or above 20V fully charged.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Steinel MobileHEAT 3 shuts off the moment I press the power button — new battery, won't stay on

This is the BMS tripping on heating element startup inrush current. The overcurrent protection threshold hasn't been profiled for the startup spike yet. Set the tool to its lowest heat output and run two full cycles before using it at full power. After those cycles, the BMS will stop cutting out on trigger-press.

The charger just blinks red and never starts charging the new 18V pack

If a Li-ion pack has been sitting discharged, cell voltage can drop below the charger's acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. Chargers reject packs below this level as a protection measure. Leave the pack on charge for 10–15 minutes anyway; some chargers will trickle charge until cells recover to acceptance voltage. If the charger still refuses after 20 minutes, check open-circuit pack voltage with a multimeter — anything below 14V total means the cells need recovery charging or the pack is unrecoverable.

MobileHEAT 3 runs noticeably weaker and takes much longer to reach temperature in cold weather

Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C, which increases voltage sag under the heating element's sustained load and drops the effective rail voltage. The tool's output scales with available voltage, so cold cells mean less heat. Warm the battery to room temperature before use — even 15 minutes indoors before heading out makes a measurable difference. Don't heat the pack directly; ambient warming is enough.
